15x8, or 16x8 for my First Gen

I'm torn on what to put on my first gen. Just bought her, 2004 extended cab V6 TRD. It's totally stock.

My old '99 TRD had 15's....and I'm liking the cheaper prices on tires. I will be going with Duratracs. Either 32x11.50 or 33x12.50s

Is there any reason why I should stick with 16's?

My wheel choice would we the Wheeler Steelies type B (4" bs)

 

bump on this. what are the pros and cons besides cost of tires?

 

I suppose given the same diameter tire on each wheel size, you would be able to air down a little more and have more rim protection with a 15" wheel/tire combo than with a 16".

I was hoping I could have used 15" wheels on my 2nd gen but had to use 16's. I like the look of more rubber and less rim on a 4x4.

Gets to a point maybe that when you get to huge monster size tires that you would have to go with larger wheel diameter to be able to run larger brake rotors, to bring all that crap/weight to a stop.

 

One thing to note about going with 16s or staying with I should say is that a lot of aftermarket wheel Manf. offer 16 x 8 wheels with 4.5 BS which means if you go with an aggressive tire like a Duratracs you may rub at full lock on the frame. With a 15" that rub will be almost nonexistent or very little if any should you decide to not go with the Wheeler setup you mentioned above.

 

Pick a wheel that you like with the proper backspacing and fitment and you're golden. 15s or 16s is a matter of preference as long as they fit and fortunately for you, the 1st gen allows for either wheel size.

 

go with 16 inch F-5's from....oh who makes those wheels again? I'm drawing a blank...
