Does anyone have experience clearing 305/65r17's on a second gen with 3" of lift? I'm shopping for new tires and thinking about stepping up from my original plan of running 285/70r17's. They will be the same outside diameter, but I'm wondering if the extra width will cause any issues. I'm fine with doing the CMC and plastic trimming, but I'd like to be able to fully stuff them without any rubbing. I know 315's require cutting back the fenders a lot and people seem to still have issues with rubbing on the frame/fender/uca even with extensive modification... will I have similar issues with the 305's?

Well... 315s are only 10mm wider than 305's. That's 1 centimeter. If 315 requires major modification, I'm betting 305's won't be drastically easier.

305/70r/17's on 17x 8.5" wheel. 2.5" of lift. Rubs crossed up. Trimmed everything, CMC, need to cut more, not lft more.

Basically I'm just not sure if the extra trimming required when going from 285's to 315's is because of the height or the width. I'd be the same height as 285's, but the width of 315's.

Thanks for the pic! The 305/70r17's are ~1 inch taller than the 305/65r17's I've been looking at, but by looking at your truck I'd say some fender trimming would be required.

Anyone else given this a shot?
