powder coating (coated) my wheels

a long long time since ive done a good write up on anything. but im sure heres a write up you all will like.
well i have 5 cragar quick trick one wheels they were chrome but i dont like the chrome finish on them so i decided to go with black..... this is where powder coating came in. did my research and found out its honsestly not that hard.
it takes a little money to get a setup going but nothing any weekend warrior cant accomplish.
so in total this project cost me under two hundred dollars outside of the wheels.
when coating there are toxins releasd that arent to good for you to be breathing in. so i had to run and make my own extension chord an extra thirty feet out of our second kitchen in our house. this was the most scary part. dealing with 240 volts but is fine if you use the right items and dont criss cross the circuit.
the oven $50
the gun $70
powder $10
sand blaster $30
sand $5
extra 6 guage wire (90ft) $45
elbow grease and the nuts to get the job done.....priceless

got all my wheels.... sand blasted them (takes a long time with a small air compressor)
then it was off to powder coat.
here are the pictures i have so far.....i will add more asap. the first wheel is in the oven now.

Dang that looks really good! Where'd u aquire all the equipment necessary? Mite be somethin worth lookin in to...definitely could make some extra coin on the side

harbor freight was where i got the gun because i was on a budget. the pictures you have seen are of the used wheels. i had three used and two new wheels. the new ones dont have any scratches. they will look so sick!!!
you can get a really good gun for about 100 bucks.
mine for 70 and it takes about a 1/4th of a lb to coat just the front of a wheel. thats 1/4th of 5 bucks!!! its sick! there are the littler holes on the outer side of the main face of the rim. there are little nipples that go in there....there getting painted the same color of my truck! sexyness!

 

man those turned out awesome! looks way better than spray paint imo. just gives it a smoother more uniform look i guess youd say.

so u dont need a special oven, just a basic household one?

are the two new wheels a different offset?

 

yea the two new ones are diffirent offset. 3.75 instead of (i cant remeber the other offset)
thats why i got a pair. and also to have a spair.
the new ones will go up front and the used ones in the back.

 

standard oven. i just ran the cabled an extra 30 feet to get it out of the house. it smells like burning metal or welding if you know what that smells like.
if you extend the wires make sure you get 6gauge wire. thats what i used and it worked great i check the temps and they were at room temp the entire time so there were no problems with the wires not being big enough
