    Or the fact that it's a blazing multi-class fire on a ship in the middle of the ocean and it would be more expensive to retrofit with other systems, kind of like why the Navy still uses R12 refrigerant. They're phasing halon out along with all other CFCs and HCFCs due to the negative effects on the environment in favor of other "more friendly" alternatives like CO2 and DuPont's FM-200 systems.

    OP-Did they do anything to seal up the engine compartment or is there enough in the bottle to displace all of the oxygen?

    I know race trucks have them.

    How does it exactly work?
    I read on that link that its a liquid that turns into a gas when deployed.

    Does the remote nozzle have to be facing exactly in the fire prone area or can I just have one in the engine bay and it should do the trick if fire arises?

    Halon is designed to fill the space and smother the fire which is why it's good for A, B and C class fires. As long as it can get in there you should be good, all of our boats the discharge is usually fairly centered.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
    It bonds to the O2 molecules in a space, but its supposed to work in a closed environment. Makes me wonder how well it will work under the hood of a truck...

    Im sure it wont hurt, but I dont think it will put the fire out completely. And if it does re-flash is most likely gonna happen.
