I took the center console out to expose the light that illuminates the shifter position. I put a T split on each of the Pos and Neg leads. I ran the wires to the cup holder and used 3mm LEDs with I think 4000 lums 12v. (got them from ebay). I drilled each hole the exact size of the led and then used a hot glue gun to secure them in place. I hooked the negative lead to the positive led of the next LED so that I only had 2 connections back to the shifter. I put an inline switch so I could turn if off if I wanted.
