Designed to provide safety, convenience, and security outside the home, the Heath Zenith motion-sensing security light (model SL-5512-BZ) provides reliability and peace of mind at a price you can afford. The SL-5512-BZ features 240-degree motion detection at up to 100 feet, and it uses two 150-watt halogen bulbs (included) — for 300 watts of total illumination. This model comes in bronze, but it's also available in white.

Features Heath Zenith's patented DualBrite two-level lighting technology (view larger).

This security light also features Heath Zenith's patented DualBrite technology, which provides energy saving two-level lighting operating at half power until motion is detected and full power lighting when motion is detected.

Studies show that light is the #1 deterrent to crime, and Heath Zenith's intelligent motion lighting fixtures help give the appearance of a startled homeowner turning on the lights to investigate what's going on outside. They also provide convenient illumination when you need it most, whether you're working outside at night or needing to see the steps more clearly to avoid a fall.

Lights are activated when motion is detected, so there's no need to waste electricity by leaving the lights on all night. You can choose between three auto modes — 1, 5, or 20 minutes of illumination after motion triggers the light. In DualBrite mode, you can choose 3 hours, 6 hours, or dusk to dawn. When constant light is needed, this motion-activated light has a manual override mode that allows it to function as switch-controlled light for constant on, dusk-to-dawn lighting.

Heath Zenith uses superior pulse-count motion detection technology, which prevents false triggering by reading heat and movement in pulses as opposed to single occurrences. As a result, only substantial motion is detected, such as humans and animals.

This security light offers Heath Zenith's exclusive RangeBoost feature, which uses double pulse-count technology to reduce false triggering and allows it to reliably detect motion farther than the competition — adding 30 feet of motion detection range from the light fixture.

Lights places when the Sun don't shine.
The neighborhood that I live is poorly lit, the porch light just barley lights the three feet of driveway around it and half the time the street lights don't work... Not they that put out that much light anyway. When I leave for work in the daytime it's not an issue, it's coming back at night through the pitch-black neighborhood to a pitch black house. These lights are a bit better then what most of the local hardware stores had in stock, the light housing and most of the unit it are solidly constructed of heavy metal, except for the motion sensor which is made from mid-weight plastic. Mounted up they look great, but that dawn/dusk feature is nice because I can leave them on and they'll automatically shut off in the daytime.Setting them up was a breeze and they light up the driveway very nicely. Just my personal experience, but the the square light pattern that halogens put out is a whole lot more useful then the standard floods with the round lights and will light an area better with less drop-off in light intensity.Update 3/13/2012:Still working just fine, the stock light bulb lasted over a year and a half of nightly use (roughly over 5,000 hours) before it finally blew out, it lights the driveway from dust to dawn every night.

I got this to replace a non-Zenith motion sensor light, which was more expensive, but which was made of plastic that cracked after a few years in the Florida sun. I based my purchase on other reviewers and wasn't disappointed. It was easy to install, worked perfectly as soon as it was installed. I like the many features it has: two-tier lighting; dusk-to-dawn option and its sturdy metal housing. I couldn't think of a reason to rate this item less than five stars. ****UPDATE: I've had this light for two months and it worked great until it blew one of the two lights. So I figured, ok, I must have gotten a dud halogen lamp and replaced it. Two weeks later the new lamp blew too. So I'll be contacting Heath Zenith and see if they'll make good on this motion sensor security light. I still like all of its features, but there's definitely a flaw in the light.

I bought 4 of these and 2 single 250w, all with motions detectors; the dual 150ws had the "dual bright" feature. I installed them and the ones over my garage go on and stay on all night. If you download the instructions and look over all the Q & A, there is a hidden defect not mentioned in the instructions. its called induction. Its available on the Heath web site, but only after searching quite a bit. Only there does it explain that if you have any compact florescent lights; regular forescent lights; a garade door opener; anything with a motor; anything with a coil; these lights do not work; will go on and stay on all night. I had an electrician install these pull the power, put in boxes, etc. at substantial cost; now I find they are just consuming power (a lot) and not turning on and off with movement. So, I have had to turn them off. Again, this defect is not mentioned on the box or in the insturctions. They let you get about $300 of work done to get frustrated; then discover the "problem" on their web site; but there is no solution. The only solution is to pull power from a circuit without any florescent lights; motors; coils; etc. sure wish I knew this before I had the electricians out twice. With CFLs all the rage; unless you create a new circuit, you are very likely to have a florescent or coil or somthing else in your circuit. So, buyer beware. Keep your receipt and return them. I'm now on a search for lights without the secret induction flaw. Update several months later. I've tired to get some solution other than having these replaced by an electirican through contacting Heath Zenith but I get no response. Anyone finding similar lights without an induction problem, please post names or models so that others can see solutions also. I am still looking. I have now had them replaced with a different model from the same company. I will post that model. It does not have the dual bright feature that appears to cause these lights to be sensitive to the induction problem. What I also like about the new ones is that they take regular screw in light bulbs and I have put LEDs flood or spot lights in them and they work fine. The original model also was a problem because the 250 or 150 watt bulbs were very small and you had to get up on a ladder with a screwdriver to open the bulb protecting fixture and carefully remove and replace the old bulbs. With the new model I use one of those big yellow sticks on which I can insert the flood light and can change the bulbs (some do not have the LEDs) easily without having to get up as high or use a screwdriver. The replacement model I bought is Heath Zenith SL-5412-BZ-D 300-Watt Motion-Sensing Twin Security Light, Bronze. The only difference is the 5412 vs 5512 in the model but you will see when you click on the image it takes the standard spot and flood lights and not the hard to install quartz bulbs. This other model is less expensive under $30. The Rabs mentioned in the comments to my comment are over $100 and look like exceptional lights if you need even more protection from other interference but these other ones have worked fine so far for me. However I am stuck with the prior ones which are sitting in a heap in my garage.

I already had 2 of these installed at my house when 2 other motion floodlights - a different make - decided they no longer wanted to work. I knew immediately that I wanted to buy 2 more of this floodlight as their replacements. Easy to install and wire, easy to adjust the sensitivity. Had them both installed within 45 minutes. One is about 15 feet above ground, the other about 25 feet above ground. Went out that night and they both caught me (turned on) as soon as I got within 30 feet of the house. In addition to their ease of installation and great, contemporary look that I like about these lights - the thin halogen cylinder bulbs they require vs the big bulky glass bulbs that seem to burn out way too often. So there you have it, I have 4 of these installed on my house, 2 are brand new installs, the others have been installed for about 2 years and they are just great!
