Squealing noise when slowing down, then stops under 10mph

Hello, I need some advice on my 2006 tacoma trd sport. For the past 3 months my truck has been making a squealing noise that I cant pin point...

So here are the details, any help/advice is truly appreciated.

About 5-10 min into a drive I'll start hearing a faint squealing noise toward the front passenger side of my truck, when I slow down under 30 the noise gets pretty loud, then around 10mph it quickly stops. It honestly sounds like my serpentine belt slipping but when I'm rolling along at 10-20mph and I put my truck in neutral and rev the engine, the noise level stays the same. So far I've replaced the belt and all of my pullies, even the tensioner. I've paid $120 for toyota diagnostics and $90 for another private repair shop... and all they've told me is that is gonna take longer to find it, they're not sure...

    Hey 06,
    Welcome to TacoWorld,

What do you brakes look like? Is the noise only present while braking or does it change with braking? Are you certain that the noise is coming from the passenger side. I know as a tech that there are times that a noise sound like it is coming from a certain area when it is exactly the opposite.

I'm having a similar issue, but it's not loud...yet. It goes away when I press the brakes. I've pulled the wheels, and I'm only about ~1mm under the stock pad's thickness. It's going into the shop this weekend for the blower motor replacement, so I'll have them see if they can pinpoint it.

Not so sure about the wheel bearing idea, unless you guys have experienced it yourselves. You would think that they would start to roar before any squeaking noise. The only other thing that I could think of in that direction would possibly be a loose axle nut allowing the axle shaft to move slightly.

I have heard wheel bearings squeal before,
as far a loose axle nut, it's still a splined connection.

Thank you all for you replies! I just changed my brakes last month and the noise is still present. Its really strange and frustrating since I don't hear the noise unless driven awhile and I'm moving. I hope to record the sound on my gopro and see what people think. It literally sounds like my serpentine belt, which it may still be... I replaced my serpentine belt a few month ago and its always made more noise than my stock belt (bought it at napa). Still I would think if I rev the engine the I would hear the sqeal but I dont, unless its load related. I ordered a gatorback belt and hopefully that fixes it...

I dont think its a wheel bearing either, my front right went out about a year ago and sounded like I had rocks in my rim.

I've seem a couple other people out there with the same issue but have never seem what they did to fix it.

Where would I check to see if I have a loose axle nut? Or if a problem with my U-joint?

just changed your brakes ? the pads have a scraper designed to make noise. I've seen those bent on new pads and they alert earlier than they should.

I am going with this...remove pads, bend the noisemaker back

What scraper are you referring to? Can you see it in the picture below (this was before I finished my brakes)

can't see it in your pics, usually they are on the other side of the pad closer to the hub

in your pics we can only see the tabs of the backing pad
(these backing pads prevents overall squealing)

it depends on the brand of pad but something like this designed to scrape
and squeal the rotor when pads wear down

Is it the blower motor? Turn the ac/heat off or turn up the fan speed. They are known for that

You know I didn't even think about that good call. I actually have seen it on the cars I work on(not Toyota) but didn't connect it because he said it was only after driving.

Mine squeaks like a mother, and has ever since the 3rd week had it new. When I got my oil changed at the Toyota garage, I asked them to take it out and grease it up.. they wouldnt. They said they just replace them... for a few hundred. I said forget it! Il do it myself... still havent done it.. haha. Its pretty annoying. I think my door seals recently started squeaking too.

Gonna fire this thread back up with some info. My truck was doing the same exact thing and here is the (my) resolution.

    Issue:
Squeaking / chirping was coming from what sounded like the passenger side. It'd been an intermittent noise for a year or so. This year I cruised through a carwash with the undercarriage blast, and the noise came back- but more incessant.

    Symptoms:
I wouldn't get the noise when accelerating, and I wouldn't get the noise at slower speeds cruising around town. The noise would only happen above 30ish MPH and would consistently happen when I let my foot off the gas to decelerate. Even if I ever so slightly let off, it would make the noise.

    Troubleshooting:
I went under the truck and started wiggling stuff to see if anything made the same noise: exhaust pipe, exhaust shields, O2 sensors, skid plate etc. I tightened up everything for good measure, lubed where the body meets the frame (just in case) and drove it.

    The noise was still there.

I found a forum saying it might be the CV boot out of grease, so I re-lubed it and drove it.

    The noise was still there.

I found a forum that said to try lubricating the drive shaft (DUH!) so I gave that a try. I was only able to get my grease gun on 5 of the 6 fittings, so I greased those 5 fittings and took it for a drive.

THE NOISE WAS GONE! BUT NOT FOREVER..!

I drove 10 miles or so and the noise faintly started to come back, but it was quieter than before.

    Solution:
I got back under the truck and lubed everything AGAIN. But this time I tried a little harder and was able to get ALL 6 zerk fittings greased. The fat tip on my grease gun BARELY made it on to the fitting I didn't grease initially- so I'd recommend a small / medium tip to make it easier.

It took me ZERO TOOLS other than a grease gun and full tube of red Mobil grease.

I used this video as a guide to find the fittings on my gen 1 Tacoma and it was very easy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_l3MwcdpSiY

I didn't jack up my rear end like the dude does in the video, but doing that would make it a little easier. I just drove the car forward or backward to get my driveshaft into the right place for greasing.

THERE ARE 6 FITTINGS! DO NOT GIVE UP. YOU WILL FIND THEM. *Tip* bring some rags under the truck with you

    Takeaway:
It wasn't the CV boot like I thought, it wasn't a loose shield or skid plate, it wasn't the brakes, it wasn't a wheel bearing, it wasn't a belt, it wasn't a loose exhaust pipe either. Based on the location of the noise, I thought all of the aforementioned things would be a more likely cause. I thought there was no way it was coming from the drive shaft- I WAS WRONG. AGAIN!

No guarantees that this is your issue, but I am sure this will help someone else eventually. If you grease it once and it comes back, grease 'em again!
