If you find out yours is bad and you need a cigarette lighter, you can have mine. I replaced it with one of the power outlets from the lower cover and put USB ports down there.

That's what it was! It was a few years before I joined TW that this happened. I fixed mine that way too.

Yep, mine looked fine too. Get that multi meter and start toning out. Iirc, it was the hot wire, the ground was fine.

How do you know it's bad?

I thought one of my power outlets was not working, while the other was. Had me confused.

All it was it my adapter/plug that I was putting in the outlet didn't fit so well. I put another adapter/plug in that same outlet and it worked fine.

I tried my actual cig lighter to see if it would get hot, nope. I also tried my phone charger, nothing. I could try my little harbor frieght air compressor (that's what made it go out in the first place..)

Ok thanks I will replace the wire then!

Thank you sir!! I will let you know if I can't fix mine.

I'm going to change my steering rack tomorrow using this writeup I have one thing I'm unsure about, the rack i got from rack doctor comes with inner tie rods and boots already on and assembled. Do i need to the steps (represented by ) pictures 5 - 12?

I just want to make sure there's nothing that i need to align there on the new rack. If i don't have to take the boots off of it in not going to (duh)

OK, I need some help figuring out what is going on with my electrical system.

About a week ago I had a hard start two days in a row, so I checked the volts, they looked normal. I put the battery tender on over night, thinking I might need a new battery, the next morning everything was good. No issues with anything until this Friday, I driving when the radio starts turning on and off (a 4 year old Kenwood), so I check the UG volts and it is showing about 9-11 volts, every time it drops below 10 the radio would cut off. I shut off the radio and any other electrical things, so I can get home.

Yesterday, I had to run to the store to get something big, so I couldn't ride the bike. The truck started, and the the volts fluctuated between 10-14 for about a mile and then held at 14 for the trip to and from. Later in the day I drove around for a bit just to test things out. Started without any problems and the volts stayed at 14. Even after I started turning components on. When I turned the radio on the volts dropped to 10 for a few seconds and then back up to normal. Now, the radio is acting funny, some of the buttons aren't working.

I feel like a need a new alternator and a new radio (Although that's not in the budget). The radio couldn't have gone all screwy and caused that much volt drops, right? I am a little puzzled.

You need to ensure the rack is centered. You don't need to take the boots off to do so, just lightly clamp vice grips on the output shaft and spin the rack from one side to the other and split the difference to find center.

Get the battery and alternator tested, those two things messing up cause screwy things. I think the radio is fine
