Lots of dust and custom dents, Check Build
Count the amount of threads showing on each OTRE, and thread them in the same amount to the new rack (after you have centered it). I'd also do a quick tape measure check of toe when you're done, but you should go get an alignment regardless.

Just look at the build thread
A lot of people changing racks lately. What kind of mileage are yall changing them at? Mine is fine but I've only got 130k. Just curious why there's so much talk of replacing them in the past couple of months it seems.

Jump your truck and let the donor vehicle charge the battery for a couple minutes.

Once you take the cables off, if the truck dies its more than likely your alternator. If it's fine it's your battery.

Lifetime warranty, I think they say it doesn't cover off road or racing applications.

    Thank you guys^^

I'm at 211k on this truck. The rack is just worn out. Both boys are full of fluid, need to do the steering pump as well but I'm going to let it get worse before doing anything about it

Hate to cast a shadow on your Sunday but I think you will be happier in the long run.
That rack appears to be the old style that would have come from the factory on a 00. I would see if you can exchange it.
When folks have no choice but to go with a reman rack I tell them to ask for one for an 04. That way there is a better chance of getting the newer style, no guarantee, just a better chance and more recourse should they try and slip you the old style.
All 1st gen racks are interchangeable but from around 01 and up an internal part (rack guide) was substantially improved. The racks with the newer guide have a recessed hex socket on the pinion gear preload adjuster. It looks like a big "plug" on the driver side. Search "rack guide" or read this It is possible to retrofit a new style guide without changing the adjuster but it takes a custom made spacer. Might give them a call and see what they say.

Rack with new type guide/adjuster. More here http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1s...rack-pinion-service-tools-tips-dry-wordy.html

Okay so when I bought this truck the guy before me had these light bars put on as you can see he used the mounts that came with it instead of the roof mounts and the bar is shitty and the LEDs are getting dim in patches so I'm taking both bars off. Anyone got any suggestions on how to fill the holes? I've been told fiberglass since they are so small

I saw a little bit about that but I'm just gonna install this sucker today. I dont want teal with the circus that is ups again unless I have to and the original one lasted this long so :notsure:

If I have to replace it again I will and ill ask for the newer style or maybe when I hqve more free time/ $ ill upgrade that part.

Either way this needs to happen sooner than later so I'm not scared to take the truck out

Hey guys/gals! I'm wanting some fog lights for my 1st gen, preferably halogen. Led vs halogen? What brands should I look at? Not wanting to do the blinker light mod.

Totally understand, ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
Just for your peace of mind when the roller guides start to wear they typically get to a point and get no worse. The only symptom is a little slop in the steering. Many many folks never realize the slop is there until some alignment flunky tells them they (wrongly) need a new ITR. You will not have any kind of catastrophic failure.
