1911 BS thread

It was just a little too rough, it wasn't purchased through them (used but unfinished). Has some cosmetic flaws, front and rear serrations (I like rear only) and whoever tried to adjust the rail just about murdered it.

 

Ah okay. So likely the PO hacked it up? I haven't heard many QC complaints of Caspian.

 

yeah looks like they tried to adjust the fitment with a ball peen! Didn't look that bad from the pics but for 75 bucks oh well. It can be saved but not right now.

 

Not a bad price.

Commander length slide with a nice bull barrel would be what I'd do!

I might try to build my next 1911... Sounds interesting.

 

Can be a blessing or a curse.

 

I would recommend it but know that it is NOT cheaper to build a 1911 vs buying one unlike an AR15 or even a high end target rifle. If you plan on building more than one then you would start recouping the cost of the jigs and some special tooling for fitment of the slide. But yes I love to build my own and learn and make it the best I can. I would rather spend xx amount building and learning to get 100% out of it than spending x amount on something (no matter how nice) and get 90% of it's ability.

 

If you are just starting tinkering might be worth upgrading your own or buy one of the inexpensive models and make it what you want. Lets face it that is what the high end manufacturers do, they start with their base models and let the in house smiths hand fit and finish them and then sell them as the more expensive models.

 

If you start with a stainless gun it'll save you some finishing cost too.

 

Truth. My bobtail project was stainless for that reason.

Speaking of, anybody know what happened to that kid who shot himself this past December?

 

There were a couple Darwin awards as I recall.

 

This guy was running his keyboard about the manufacturer causing him to shoot himself (without evidence) so I emailed the owner a link and I haven't noticed him since.

 

Oh right, that guy.

Those types of decisions make it tougher for us.
