You can always do that too... What i liked about the chevy computers, is that there is already a pinout on the pcm for the option of electric fans, so no need for the extra bs for a custom setup

Ball joint spacers and lift blocks, am I doing it right?
Well, I got the front end back together on my 4Runner today. The steering knuckle was being a huge pain in the ass. It took like 8 tries to get the preload right, amazing how much a hundredth of on inch can make with the shims. Ended up a .55 top and bottom.

Sadly as soon as I put the spindle on I could tell something was wrong. Without a special service tool to correctly set up the knuckle it's really a guess. So one of two things could be happening, one the knuckle isn't centered or two bent housing. I went ahead and finished the assembly and it looks like the housing is bent after all. It's also causing the lockout hub to bind slightly. As of right now the 4R is down, guess this also explains why taking the long side shaft out was such a pain in the nuts.

So decision time, stock or aftermarket housing. I can get a stock housing from a shop not ten minutes from my house, he has 10 of them on the shelf. Or I can go aftermarket. Ruff stuff takes at least two months, Diamond maybe a little less. Either way I would have to buy a new short side shaft and new steering links because I would go plus 3 inches in width to get rid of the wheel spacers. Then there's Trail-gear, close in price to Ruff stuff, less than Diamond, it comes with a short side shaft and you don't have to chop the knuckle balls off your stock housing and weld them on like Diamond. You still have to buy new longer steering links though.

I think I'm going to sleep on it and go from there.

Honestly, for what you use it for, I would just get a stock one and truss it.

I'm of course in full support of over building too so if you decided to go aftermarket housing I would say diamond.

Just be prepared everything will start to snowball from that point on.

LS, tons, links and 42's only a swipe of the old MasterCard away!

But considering I've had the axle swap for a year and half and wheeled it 15-20 times. Just with moderate Florida use I've already bent a trussed housing. I will most likely go aftermarket, I really like the idea of ditching the wheel spacers too.

I'm going to start doing some out of state trips too, this just cuts into my trailer fund a little. Heck with Dirty Mike picking up his new ride there may be more Florida members venturing beyond state lines. There are just too many great wheeling spots to explore, many of them less than a 12 hour drive.

Casually looking for a tandem axle car hauler, nothing crazy. I have access to a quad cab full size truck (a gasser unfortunately ), but it would manage camping gear, the 4R , the wife and kids just fine.

The hard part is done, the wife is Onboard.

Maybe this fall, Golden Mountain, Windrock and Uwahrrie are all 10 to 12 hours out. If we had 3 or 4 trucks we could split the cost of renting a house or cabin for a week.
