So I have owned a Tundra for years and just drove home a new 2015 SR5 Tacoma today. Really like the truck a lot just hoping I can get used to the size adjustment. Any suggestions on gear stowage? Are those bed extenders worth the money? How about ladder racks? Anyway, psyched to have it and looking forward to doing some upgrades over the years and making it mine.

Did you go with the 5' or 6' bed? Lots of info on gear storage on different member's build threads, especially ones geared toward overlanding. Also a variety of bed racks and ladder racks depending on your intended uses. I prefer a camper shell with roof racks, but it all depends on what you want to do with your truck.

It has a 5' bed. I am thinking of going with the Thule or Tracrac ladder rack system with a cargo box. I am worried about drilling into the composite bed though to mount those. I'll be using it mostly to transport my kayak, mountain bike, skis and snowboard, and to go camping and hunting with on the logging roads of northern Maine. Eventually will do new and more aggressive tires and wheels and a cold air intake along with a few other things but otherwise keep it simple.

    Welcome.

Spend a lot of time with the truck as is, and digging around on the forum, and you'll start to figure out what will work for you.

The reason I say 'as is' is because you can spend a chunk-o-change doing one thing, then finding out there is a better solution for less.

For example, there is a whole section on fishing, sports, etc. Here is a sample thread with a pile of options. I like post #976 :D http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/sp...-kayaking-canoeing-thread-49.html#post9586518

I either use a bike carrier mounted on the hitch, or just stand the bikes up in the bed and lash them down, kinda like carrying a motorcycle. Often that's faster than the rack and less abusive to the bike.

I've seen lots of thread with various configurations for your snow stuff too.

Loving this truck! Only had it a month and I've added a Toyota roof rack and skid plates, weather tech vent visors, more d rings in the bed, and a Thule 500xt Xsporter. This week I'm adding a color matched grille (with the emblem blacked out), blacked out badges, and weather tech mud guards. Soon I'll be plasti coating the bumper and getting blacked out rims and Nitto tires. I might do a lift or suspension upgrade and am also considering nerf bars... We'll see.

Nice plan. Ive got 33" nittos on a 2.5" lift. Definitely some rubbing but they look pretty bad ass on some nice black rims.
