I agree with this, premium food is worth it to me also. I don't use TOW anymore but NutriSource Seafood Select because experimenting it worked best, in our case anyhow with old age, worn out joints, and prostate problems. I think as long as it is a premium food and works, (shows a positive change) they are totally worth it. For a number of years I have considered RAW too (BARF diet) off and on but prep, storage, cost, etc. have stopped me. If nothing else worked I would do RAW in a heartbeat.

I know some people use chewy.com to save money on premium food which has free shipping on orders of $50 or more but I don't mind supporting the local feed store and economy. But if premium dog food is not available locally it is a good option and usually cheaper from what I understand.

Mr. New Dad! Congratulations. Yoda ears don't really count as dress up, 'cause it's Star Wars!

I'm pretty spoiled. The local feed store is just about five blocks away up on Hwy 101 on the north end of town.

I have this unhappy feeling that using Purina Field & Farm for years with my first Australian Cattle Dog was what caused him to get Cushings Disease. He died way too soon at 13. ACDs hold the Guiness Book of Records ...record for longevity at 29 yrs old.

Mannnnn, he was the best dog ever. And I'd had a few diff dogs growing up to that point. Sigh.

So... yep, best food money can buy. And buy local. Like my truck... so proud I was able to buy local on it, too. And still got a great deal! Woohoo.

I think it's better to focus on the quality of the ingredients over price. If you look at some of the recent food recalls, they've included some of the most expensive brands.

I feed Costco Salmon and Sweet Potato. Not the most expensive but the vet reviewed the ingredients and feels it'll do the job. I've also fed the Lamb & Rice diet but switched when Riley developed a bit of skin condition-salmon is a novel protein and sweet potato is grain-free. I could probably go with Venison too-that's a very oily protein that would work well.

We feed the pup Zignatures--either the fish or duck. The nice thing about the brand is it's completely chicken free, and the only meat protein is the one thats named (IE, the duck doesn't have any turkey, lamb, beef, etc in it.)

My pup doesn't do well with grains, lamb, or chicken and it's hard to find a dog food out there without lamb or chicken in the ingredient list.

Couldn't agree more. The day I feel the need to cut corners on what my dog or dogs eat... is the day I cease to own a dog.

Smudge, our female ACD, has serious grain issues. A weak moment and some animal crackers a couple of weeks ago to ease what my sweetie thought was separation anxiety between Smudge and me... led to two weeks of hellish scratching for the poor dog. No mo' human cookies for her. Grains out. Period.

It is common for young Tollers to grab the end of a roll of toilet paper and run through the house dragging it all over. This is often refereed to as A White Tornado by those owned by Tollers. Had my first White Tornado last week and I told the little guy that would not be tolerated, he couldn't run all over the house doing that. He listened, somewhat. This morning before work, busted:

It shouldn't be long before he figures out how to flush the toilet. They love water including watching it run....

Too cute. It's because of this sort of cuteness our TP is kept in the bottom drawer of the vanity these days.

Hopefully "Leave It" will sink in on the TP and I will not have to do that. On the other hand I like some spirit and a dog to be even a little naughty (not so boring) so time will tell. If he starts to think his name is GODDAMMIT! time to back off LOL. Trash breaking, OB and hazard avoidance I expect 100% compliance as it can save his life, but have found with each dog I get a little softer so to speak in the house with them.

Picked up 6 new stuffed animals for $5 at Salvation Army as new toys for him today, have to see which ones in this batch make the cut. Most of the last batch went out in the trash Tuesday. And he usually gets a bully stick a day but he is not spoiled

Hahahhaaa... we went through the "not spoiled" phase... buying stuffed toys at the local Goodwill Store. Still do now and then. They've got their favorites. Those are the ones Nancy does "home surgery" on to make them last a little longer. We get concerned dogs pacing back and forth as they watch the stitching.

Lifesaving commands like "leave it" expressed really firmly and sincerely... must have, along with a good recall command. I can bellow "leave it" and steak will drop out of either dog's mouth. This is vital when they find a chicken bone in the yard that some enterprising crow has stashed for later snacks. They get rewarded very well after the steak drops out. :)

Oh. Our dogs have lots of nicknames... from Damnit, Mutt... to ...Runt! Theme songs, too. Words added to familiar tunes. Our girl even sings to them. She's got a whole series of sounds... from a chirping bird, to an elk trumpet, even a decent moo. Not bad for a cow dog.

Damn buddy. I hate to hear that. You're a lucky fella for getting to enjoy such a fine animal and I'm sure he felt the same about you. Hang in there. Remember the good times, it's all you can do.

Really saddens me to hear that Scott, been there done that and is not easy, ever. Tuesday I missed graduation class for puppy 1 because my sons chemo went longer than it should have. Cancer sucks no matter what or who you are. The loss of a dog is never easy no matter what the reason and my heart goes out to you.

COS I think we went to the same school LOL. So how much do you charge to fix dog toys?! My old Toller adopted my oldest son (now 27) stuffed dog about 12 years ago. As a pup he tore up everything except that thing. He mouths it and his eyes roll back in his head and its lights out. Which is good in tight quarters when camping

Made the mistake of posting it in a picture of my off road trailer on a hunting forum and a gentleman asked me what line that English Setter came out of

The pup has torn it up and I have tried to stitch it back together. His last attack left a large hole and stuffing all over the place. Still trying to find something to keep the pup occupied so the old guy can have his favorite toy back.

This is never an easy day for anyone. Sigh! We had four cats get old at the same time... But when I lost Simon, my Australian Cattle Dog... roughest day of my life. Here's the poem I wrote for him... the photo is one of his last trips up on the Long Beach peninsula in Washington State. I hope the words help in some way:
