Finally warmed up enough for my garage roof to shed the other day. 3 feet of snow makes quite a pile. Not exactly severe weather, but I've got to do some severe shoveling this weekend. Glad I've got the Kubota to do most of the heavy lifting.
For a sense of scale, the doors on the shed are 6.5 feet tall.

I was thinking the same thing. People forget that we are still coming out of the little ice age, that ended in 1880! That's not long ago on the scale of things. Before that the Mojave natives would run all night when it was cool to get from waterhole to waterhole. When white guys started coming across in the wagon train days they would frequently get attacked at those water holes. The natives knew if you controlled the water, you controlled the region. The US Army sent soldiers to defend the water, and the rest is history. We've been fighting over the water ever since.

Was surprised to find out this morning that I have no more Weather Channel. It was apparently dropped by Verizon Fios, which is what I have. Seems they did it out of nowhere. Weather channel didn't even know it was going to happen. I'm kind of disappointed. I enjoyed the Weather Channel. Some of the shows they had where decent and when something big weather related happened, big snow, tornadoes, etc... they stayed with it. So I enjoyed to be able to see what was going on in real time on tv. I'm not so upset that'd I'd get rid of Verizon. I do like Verizon. But still disappointing.

It's been replaced by Accuweather. Which is just a straight up forcast channel. Basically just keeps repeating the forcast from what I've seen. With different meteorologists jumping in to say it.

    Although Accuweather has her:

Which I don't mind looking at. This pic doesn't do her justice really.

Didn't care much about the Weather Channel, but Verizon in my area also dropped Weatherscan, which had the live local radar and reports and forecasts from the NWS stations in the immediate area. That's the one I miss.

Oh. I'm not sure if I had that or not. I feel like I kind of remember it. I have a pretty sweet radar app on my phone. So that's not an issue for me. But I can see that being important depending where you live.

So I just read an article that a NASA and JPL study has reflected that here in Cali, we got about an estimated 1 year of fresh water left. :( It's not looking good out here for the near future. Added to that, we have the warmest winter in our recorded history, and hottest March to date, with 4 consecutive days over 90 degrees. I really am looking forward to moving out of the state in another 3-4 months!

 That's crazy and scary all in one. Saw some news stories a while back with towns already struggling with water and basically keeping up with bottled water and whatnot. Crazy to think of places in the U.S. running out of fresh water.

We need to build a pipeline from the North East to the South West for water. All the snow and rain that the area gets can be sent our way!

Or just build some Desal plants and then California can be self reliant for a change.

We have a couple, but apparently they are still too expensive to make.
