It's been fun, but I traded in my Tacoma '13

In the Tacoma? Including purchase price? ;)

I can't imagine spending $60k on a new half ton truck.

    Yeah, including the purchase price.

But... I've got aftermarket wheels and MT tires, a Pelfreybilt bumper, sliders (on the way), Rigid LED lights, small lift (still deciding), FrontRunner Outfitters Roof Rack, still in the process of figuring out what mid mount bed rack I want, and a RTT. I'm throwing a shit ton of money at this truck but I plan on keeping it for many many years.

*EDIT* It will be paid for in 1.5 yrs also. So that helps.

That is because vehicle reliability is a statistical thing.

You can buy an F150 which will be trouble free or you can buy a Tacoma which will give you tone of a headache. It is just the probability of those events is low.

So if anyone wants to decrease the odds of winning while playing that lottery with his/her hard earned money - by all means buy a vehicle with low reliability ratings. You might still win.. Or not.. People do all sorts of strange things..

40k with purchase price to have it exactly how you want (at least for a while..) doesn't seem crazy at all. 40k in mods alone would be pretty mind blowing though.

Maybe I've been under a rock too long, but $60k in my mind is a brand new diesel, crew cab, long bed, 1 ton truck. OP mentioned $60k F150 and I don't know what the fuck to think. Who would buy that? The depreciation of an F150 that expensive must be absolutely crazy.

First to admit, if I was shopping for a full size Tacoma replacement I'd be looking at an F150, I just don't know how $60k and F150 even go in the same sentence unless the market has really changed since I last drove a full size truck.

Our fully loaded 2012 F550 Super Crew LARIAT with a 12 foot Scelzi utility bed was only $65k.

I truly think most people are trying to be nice and simply say goodbye to a place that's helped them out in the past. I don't see anything wrong with that. What I see wrong in these threads are the people that get hot and bothered when someone else makes a decision that in no way impacts them and feels a need to put that person down for their decision.

I'm not saying you're doing that. But it always happens in these threads...80% of the posts are someone in one way or another telling the OP how much of an idiot he is and how sorry he will be. Reeks of insecurity.

Good luck OP, and very nice new truck. My new F150 will be here in about 3 more weeks.

True. My brother-in-law's dad has an 05 or 06 5.4L 4x4 F-150 supercab with pretty high mileage. Has been a very reliable unit and just goes in for normal maintenance.

So the man traded in a Tacoma to get a Ford, I dunno why so many members are getting butthurt and are taking shots at his new ride.

But we all know F-150s get worked and abused by cities, parks departments, contractors, rentals while the Tacoma's are hauling groceries.

$60k will get you into a 3.5 ecoboost platinum edition with FX4 off road package and top of the line technology package.

The market has changed a lot. The fully-loaded versions of all the half tons (Toyota included) are each over $50k on the sticker. It is possible to get a $60k sticker F150, but no one in their right mind should pay that.

To the depreciation point - people seem to forget to adjust the resale by the actual purchase price. I'm in no way saying the F150 is better than the Tacoma (because it isn't), but calculating the residual value based on a sticker price that's not a realistic purchase price is incorrect.

Not sure what y'all are on about..? Any "I'm leaving TW" thread is exactly the same as this one. Nobody cares what they bought, there is ribbing from people who think trading a Tacoma for something else is backwards, and there are people who don't understand why anybody really types up a goodbye note on an internet car forum.

    That said..

I don't disagree with that. Everyone makes choices based on what fits their needs. I did with my truck (as I'm sure you did with yours). That said, this is a Tacoma Forum and the fanboys (myself included) will be out in force. If I were to buy another brand of truck (highly unlikely but I never say never) I would just stick around and offer any helpful advice I could give from past experiences with my vehicle.

My reason that I don't understand these posts is they ALWAYS turn into a shit storm of berating the OP on his / her personal choice. I'm no one to give advice on how to spend other peoples money.

Go quietly or stick around is my perspective.

No F-150 is 60k. I agree i don't know anyone who would pay 60k for a half ton truck. Now i see a lot of fully loaded f-250's that run 60-70k .

Agree with all you said, RearViewMirror. It's not any of our's place or job to tell someone what to do with their money (unless they ask!).

That's my plan - I was going to make a thread saying I changed vehicles when my new one comes in, but I have no intentions of fully leaving the site. Might as well stick around, see some cool builds, and offer input where I can.

That could happen in any truck... Tacoma fan boys are crazy. I love my Tacoma ,but i have had several problems with it ,and I don't even have 40k miles on mine. I do not go off - roading just use it as a daily drive.

That's true. I'm just going off of personal experience. The new F150's are amazing. My friend in Denver has one and the 4x4 is great to have. It drives nice and has plenty of power. But the last ford I owned had transmission problems from the get go. Not to mention the annoying patented f150 valve ticking noise.

    To each his own.

The ONLY Ford I would ever consider buying is the Raptor.

Not extremely happy with the fuel mileage in mine. Avg around 20 but I didn't buy mine for mileage. I bought it to use. Got a hybrid for mileage
