I've seen a few threads where people plasti dip, then spray paint over it (a guy did his chrome bumper and then gloss black paint over it). Has anyone done it? What I really want to know is how difficult it would be to remove with spray paint over the PD. I was looking at dipping my rear bumper black.

Its tuff because it loses its pliability. I've heard its almost like getting paint off because the top coat is spray paint. That's why they have the gloss plasti dip covering.

Because i dont feel like ruining my chrome bumper. Figured if you could paint color matched over plasti dip and easily remove it later I would give it a try. Ive read through the "painting chrome rear bumper " threads. Looks like a lot of work. I was just looking for something simple.

I just decided to actually spray paint my bumper, it's my truck and I don't plan on selling it anytime soon. Plus I also plan on getting a new off-road bumper. Also my rear bumper had some rust on it and cracks from hitting the tongue on the boat trailer and it wouldn't stick or last there.

Still don't see your point. If you go to the trouble to paint it why would you remove it. A professional color matched bumper would look better than chrome. But they'll ruin it (remove the chrome) to make it look better.
A side note our rear bumpers are crap anyway. A plate bumper might be something to consider.

First of all, I'll say this thread is frustrating because most people dont say what colors they used and whether they used gloss or not!

I'm ready to plastidip my chrome bumper, chrome on grill, badges, and possibly rims. The obvious color thought for the bumper and chrome on grill is black but what other colors might look good? Should I use gloss or no?

I'm about to install the mesh grill with TOYOTA raptor letters and I was thinking I'd paint those letters, the chrome around the grill, the valence, and the rear bumper the same color...maybe anthracite grey or charcoal grey? If not, I'd be cool with black on rear and front chrome, and valence. Then, maybe Anthracite or Charcoal grey on the TOYOTA raptor letters, badges, and wheels?

I dont want to go with Black on the wheels, so one of the greys for the wheels.

I like the gloss topcoat, it gives a level of UV resistance

Pre-Runner, 2" body lift, enkei rims wrapped by Firestone destination a/ts, heavy duty bumper coming soon.
Has anyone had any trouble washing their plastidipped items. I recently plastidipped all of my emblems, but I haven't washed and detailed my truck yet, in fear of messing up my emblems.

Washing you'll be fine. Even power washing from a distance you'll be good . Unless you put the power washer right up next to the emblem you're fine. I don't use the automatic car washes so I can't comment on those. But doing it yourself you should be okay. Worse case scenario, it peels, you spray again.

^This. I plastidipped my emblems like 2-3 years ago, pressure wash my truck a couple times a month and they're still holding up. I originally spray painted them, and the plastidip has held up better than the paint.

I'm thinking of plasti-dipping my 1st gen this blue color. I love the look of the speedway blue and I would like to plasti dip it because paint is too expensive. What do you guys think?

I plati dipped my wheels, part of my front bumper, and my rear bumper about a year ago and they're holding up perfectly fine. I've even gone through the automatic car washes a ton of times and the plasti dip holds up. The only thing that isn't 100% are my lug nuts because I'm not very careful when I rotate my tires.

I would imagine that dipped emblems would hold up similarly.
