Hey guys, got tires of the ol' Taco, and sold it on CL. It was an 08, so it didn't have the standard features that newer vehicles have, like more airbags, ipod connectivity, heated mirrors.
Old:
2008 DCSB Sport 4wd, 95k miles. Katskinz and ARE shell
sold for $22,000

New: 2012 Grand Cherokee Overland 4WD, 29k miles $32,500
Under factory powertrain warranty for 7/100k, and supplemental warranty until 85k miles for add'l items.

 

Bye. Hope your supplemental warranty covers the various electrical bits in the interior...

My guess is that you will regret the Grand Cherokee. They have an enormous amount of electrical and mechanical problems.

At the end of the day the only thing he will regret not matter what happens is the resale on the Grand Cherokee. They sell for a bag of sand up here in Canada after 4-5 years.

Nah, if he's commuting or has a family he will enjoy the Jeep. They do fail a lot electronically but it's hard to tell if he has a good one or a bad one without knowing the future. It's easy to argue though that 32 K is a lot of money to spend on a truck that won't be worth much in 3-5 years, at least no where near what his Taco was worth after 8 years.

 

True, but resale value isn't the highest priority for a lot of folks. Which seems to be only point everyone brings up here on TW. It gets old hearing the same broken record over and over.

Their fit and finish is top notch? Hahahahahahaha, thats why they are industry worst. They do ride nice but he'll be making nice with the Service Manager at his local dealership.

 

I did add that the Jeep is much nicer for just running around in town . People can drive whatever brand and model they like. I like my Tacoma, but I like a lot of other vehicles too. That being said, resale value has always been a factor in the vehicles I've bought ever since I ate my shirt on a Ranger.

 

That's cool. Looks nice. My wife wants one so her Rav4 may be traded in on one in a few years. I'll keep the Tacoma though since we use the bed. I'll probably let her get the Jeep and I just get a Tundra eventually. Congrats on it. Looks nice and good job on the sale price of the Tacoma.

 

They, Jeep Grand Cherokees, have great features. Features that may not be the priority for everyone. It's also well know that the entire Jeep brand has had suspect quality for a while now. Ask around, most jeep owners have had at least a few little gadgets go wrong in the first year and often they've had a major component or two need some tinkering as well.

I know my wife wants to look at one . If she likes it she can buy it, I'm sure I'll love the plush, luxurious, and quiet interior until I eat my shirt again on the trade in for a new one in 3-5 years.
