The nasty part of the bushes start from about 2' above the ground to about 2' higher than the top of the truck. A little lift will have no effect.

You just need like a 5 foot lift.

If the truck won't fit without scratching, it won't fit without scratching. Try a narrower vehicle. Your options are severely limited if you can't shrink the vehicle and you can't expand the road.

For F*^# sake. This reminds me of the dudes that put a patch of felt or something on the AR-15's case deflector to keeps the brass marks/dings off the upper receiver.

Why not? A little fire could hit those bushes, slap down some gravel over the carcasses, and, BAM, wider road!

Just don't let anyone see you do it.

I think on BLM land that'd be a federal crime. ;)

No one gives a shit about BLM land, including BLM employees. Pretty sure you would be fine to trim the bushes up. If anyone hassles you explain what you're doing and theyll probably thank you. BLM Land=Land that only god and the BLM could love.

Only if you get caught ;).

It's funny. Up here in Canada on the Crown Land you can request small modifications, like dugouts and other such things, so I'd guess they wouldn't fight you on trimming some shrubbery. I guess we must live in the land of the free up here lol.

We had a co-lease of 6500 acres that butted up against BLM land. They really don't do anything with it, they'd notice a fire but not trimming, I doubt they'd care. But, always worth double checking.

Other than a permanent clear film of some sorts I don't see a practical way to cover the truck up. Anything solid enough will take a lot of time to put up and take down, and it will be bulky to store the rest of the trip.
The only solution I see is to trim the bushes back. BLM land is leased to farmers who get permits to graze cattle, oil companies have wells on there etc, so it is not "holy land" that is untouchable. You will have to ask someone permission, and will have to repeat the trimming exercise as often as needed, but I don't see any other practical solution. (I grew up on a 5000 acre ranch/farm and we had many areas like that - we just had to keep up with trimming it a few times a year. The first trim is the hardest to get rid of thicker branches, but from there on it is all new growth that is easy to trim back)

Don't buy a new truck to drive down shitty overgrown roads. Get a beater, problem solved.

if your worried about scratches then the best thing is just stay on the road. my plan for my taco is getting rid of as much sheet metal as i can. scratches will happen when off roading.

Trucks get scratches if you use them correctly... I've never been too worried about redneck pinstriping because on the trails in CO it's pretty much inevitable.

Thanks everyone for the replies (both serious and funny).

Here's a list of options (in no particular order):

    • Trim the bushes
    • Canvas covers mounted with magnets
    • Vinyl wrap
    • Clear bra type covering
    • Linex
    • Plasti-dip
    • Magnetic sheets
    • Car cover with windshield hole
    • Painters tape
