HAHAHAHA!!!! Yes sir! I think the winch is needed a lot more than the topper. Especially after seeing Jason's recoveries this winter, and him saving my ass this last trip we did, I must haz a winch!!!

Thanks Jason for that info. So if I had in my possession a gun from the late 80s, were there any new gun requirements I would need to comply with?

Also, can I transport a gun with me to Washington State and back if it's hidden in the car or is that considered carrying concealed? That's my other concern. Not sure I'm willing to do that if it is.

Unless you have a concealed weapons permit you can not legally conceal a weapon. In Washington you must have the gun unloaded and the bullets/shells seperate than the gun (can't have the gun and shells in the same case). If you get pulled over you legally have to tell them you have a gun in the car, if they find one and you didn't tell them they take it from you. Unless its changed since I heard it last..

^^ Not talking on my person. I mean hiding it in the vehicle in case the car is broken into. I have no problem informing an officer of it being there. And what you said is consistent what I'm hearing from my FIL (thru my wife). Okay to transport if both weapon and ammunition are stored separate.

Just want to avoid breaking the law if transporting it.

    ...too much shit to list.
Nope. Dad gifted it to you, end of discussion.

Can't speak to WA, but in CA you can legally conceal it if it is in unloaded in a locked container, and the ammo is separate. In other words, put it in a case, lock it, throw in in the trunk, ammo in the cab or glove box or somewhere else. And goes without saying, never give an LEO a reason. Don't consent to a search.

There's a difference between concealed on your person and concealed in a locked case. If it was illegal to conceal an unloaded firearm in your vehicle, no person would be able to purchase a firearm and take home, or go to a range without a CCW.

What you do is get the soft topper, then take your wife wheeling by yourselves and get "stuck". You spend some time "trying" to get out then miraculously get "unstuck". After that you tell her that is why you wanted a winch and bam you have her blessing for the soft topper and winch! ;)

I agree, could definitely be a lifesaver if one were to wheel alone

Ha! When I took my wife wheeling she knew I wanted a locker. My plan was to get "stuck", but I kept making it through. At the end of the day, she was like "why do you need a locker"

Alas, my locker should be here today :woot:. USPS 2-day priority shipped Saturday. Tracking says on the truck but the mailman came and went. Anyone know if it could be on a different truck? Wasn't our normal guy and he said he didn't know.
