Hey Chenbro, about the powder coat, I don't know if it's the same as Eric's but when I went to weld a tab on Eric's LCA skids the so called powder coat melted like rubber and didn't burn like paint on the back side of my weld. I never seen that before. But who knows what Bamf used to coat it. It didn't seem like powder coat. Maybe someone that knows more about it can educate me on it.

were the L brackets already welded to the legs or did they come separate?

If they were separate then that explains it. you had a better fabricator weld them to your truck.

Mine were bolt on. After installation and discovering the issue with the door, it was obvious that the legs on one side were welded much higher on their bracket.

The LCA skids I have were hitting and bending up my frame. When I pulled them off last weekend, I think I discovered the problem. There is a 1/2" shim at one of the bolt holes on the passenger side (wasn't hitting) that wasn't present on the driver's side (was hitting).

I'll give you that the sliders are stout. God knows mine have seen a lot of rocks, taken some good hits, and have definitely prevented damage to my truck which is what their supposed to do so that's good. But that is mostly a function of the material. It's the QC of the fab work that I have an issue with. I don't think that after paying to have something fabbed, you should have to come up with janky fixes and workarounds to actually use the product. Customer service is another issue. Pelfreybilt and RCI are a couple of companies that I've dealt with that have that aspect nailed. BAMF could stand to work on it a bit IMO

Powder coat on sliders always baffles me.

You're hopefully going to be dragging your sliders on rocks. Nothing will withstand that. All powder coating does is make it harder to touch up.

My friend is a metal smith who lands jobs for Jake Burton, Mike Shanahan, DIA, etc (you get the point, he is obviously very reputable)... he hates powder coating as a finish. He says the only time he'd ever use it is indoors with low traffic/use.

He explained to me that on our trucks, the metal below will contract and expand due to cold/hot. That causes little microfractures in the powder coating that will eventually weaken the material over time. It becomes very susceptible to chipping.

Hell, my kitchen center island base is powder coated and it is chipping due to minimal contact with a pot or utensil, etc.

My BAMF sliders came with the frame mounts not welded to the legs. Nor were the gussets. I believe I had the same fabricator weld mine on that did Noah's. Without that dude's expertise my BAMF sliders would have been a disaster.

The reason for my "wouldn't do it again" is two fold

    1. The sliders were not built to spec and that created some installation issues (see below). And I pointed this out to Jerry. While I was expecting no monetary or the likes compensation, I was expecting something more than his response. I'll leave it at that.

    2. For the money I spent on the product I feel as though I could have gotten just as good a product for cheaper. And I saved on shipping because a gracious TW member literally drove my sliders from Jerry's to Boulder for me.

Here is the QA/QC issue I ran into with BAMF. Granted this isn't to say he isn't producing spec'd products, but this is my experience:

The rear leg of the driver's side slider is 7 1/2" in length. The front leg of driver's side slider is 7 1/16" in length and the two middle legs are both 8" in length. This obviously created a gap between the two outer most legs and the frame.

By contrast, all the legs of the passenger side slider are 8" in length.

    photo3-1_e210b1317237e9d3b23d44dfa0ec0c40ac9b9cc9.jpg

Also one more item of note:

The rear leg of the driver's side slider is set in 9 3/4" from the end of the square tubing while the rear leg of the passenger side slider is set in 11 3/4" from the end of the square tubing.

    I'm with you on that.

Firm believer in flat black rustoleum for all my armor. Each piece of it has kissed the rocks and gotten scratched to bare metal or even gouged and dented a bit. A couple of seconds with a large piece of cardboard to mask the sheet metal and a $3 spray can and my truck is presentable again. :D

Um, when you ask it like that, no, no definitely not. You working on painting 'free candy' on the side of your truck?

    :p

I'll be gone this weekend through next. Finally working on my own truck.

This. And I really don't want to know which is the right one.

What are we up to, x4?

One of my legs was cut at like 24 degrees, versus all the others at 20. Forgot to include the gussets. Reluctantly sent me others, which never showed up. Third time's a charm I guess and I got my gussets like 2 months after my sliders. Clearance to the pinch weld varies from like 1/4" to nothing. Had to pound down my pinch weld in a spot.

Typical TW 'me too' purchase. Wish I would have heard these opinions before I bought.

what are you going to do with that hole? fill it with plate once cutting it back further, or are you going to get a smaller body mount and trim back further and then re weld on a plate for strength?

Can't have windows on such a vehicle.

Noooice. I'll text you, or find you here, or heavily breathe on your bedroom window and finger write you a letter in the condensation, to set something up.

That's how I feel. Jumped on the TW bandwagon. Should have listen to Jon.

Hey bud I'm sure if you contacted IF they will fix it for you. I was over there the last two days talking about my project. They offered me a tube with a 90* on it to help me with mock up. I'm sure if you explain your situation they will work something out.

X6 only bought the bamf sliders as an impulse when he shipped someone in town the wrong set. My front lca skids need to be trimmed as they are the same as Eric's, the diff skid won't bolt up nicely off the truck so Im scared putting it on will be a pain and the cmc plates from bamf don't look anywhere near as nice as insains

Damn I was looking at BAMF as one of the possibilities. I will not be going that route now! I'll be going on a wheeling trip in New Mexico next Monday. I doubt I'll be able to find that quick local. I know one guy who can weld some up but 650 I think is a bit steep. RCI has some up in fort collins, maybe they're the best bet. Thanks for the information gents looks like BAMF made it off the list lol.

are you in CO? if so then you should look into Insain Fab, Addicted Offroad, or Skinkwerks, or even Slee Offroad. All have different looks, and are local here in CO. your location says NM so are you looking local there or up here?
