I know not particularly solid axle question but I'll get there soon, does anyone know what clutch I need to run with an R151 tranny? I just picked one up and plan to swap out the current forward shifting W56. While I have everything apart I want to get a new flywheel, pressure plate, clutch, and pilot bearing. Wondering if theres R151 specific kits or should I just order one for a 22re. Truck is an 89 4runner.

I get that, but I wasn't sure if the 22rte had a different clutch than the 22re and if so, if I could run that in a 22re and if there's any performance benefits.

You can use a turbo flywheel and clutch, they are a little larger than the 22re/w56 clutch

FWIW I got the Aisin part numbers and ordered the entire clutch setup on Amazon.

Thanks to someone not knowing how to build a diff and doing it anyways, yes I already tore it up.

They re-used the factory crush sleeve and just threw shims on top to make up the difference... The ring gear has some weird marks on it so I'm going to send some pics to ECGS and see what they say. If it's not salvageable I'm going to return the rcv's, sell what I have and build a 60/14.

Oh it's a landcruiser third, I can build it myself no problem. Just trying to decide if the ring gear is ok or not. No broken teeth but has weird markings and the tips of the teeth rubbed on something

The tips don't really matter as you aren't making contact with the outside edge anyway... unless you suck at gears. Those markings... I'm not sure about. But I say it's good. Might want to file some of them burrs down on the edges though.

Yeah just heard back from ecgs. They said smooth out the tips and set it up correctly and it should be good to go

Do you guys think that it would really be worth it for me to go to tons? What benefits would I see over my fj60 and taco rear? Just more beef and a little extra width? Will my t cases be able to handle the extra weight? Sorry for all the questions.. just trying to figure out what I want to do.

I want to go links but I don't want to link what I've got and then decide I want to do tons.

You can run larger tires safely... Strength is outrageous. There isn't much benefit besides strength and running larger tires.

So I guess the question is will the fj60 reliably hold 39.5's? How bout the taco rear? I think it would be fine for strictly slow crawling but if I can't crawl something after a few tries I get a little throttle happy..

I don't think the taco rear can support it. I'd say 37s max. But people run 37s on D30s so... I dunno. I guess maybe wheel it and see what happens! That's what I am doing with my D44.

FJ60 has a 9.5" center and standard mini truck outers. With chromoly axles and 6 stud knuckles you'll probably be fine. Taco rear might last a season or 2 but it still has a weak 8" ring gear. Forget it if it's a TRD rear axle, those things blow up running 31" tires.
