A lanyard is a great compact and light weight solution!

It is, Im just always out too long. I like the water bottle carrier too.
If I go on a short quick fish I have my two compartments in my waders for a fly box and tools

    That looks sweet, nice job!

None of the above. Been wearing the same vest for more than 30 years and do not see the need to change. Although the zipper seems to be a bit tighter than it used to be, must be winter shrinkage over the years... I also spend extended periods out and while I don't load it as full as I used to I do like the storage.

Then again I still wear Red Ball stocking foots with the original Gary Borger wading boots made by Weinbrenner.

    Lol

I had a vest now but it's too warm and too bulky feeling...

Headed to Palm Coast for Vaca. Going to try and do some fishing. I want to either rent a kayak for some areas or maybe go on a charter. Looking for reds and would love to fish for tarpon!!

    This one looks good http://inshoreadventures.net

I may also just walk out into the flats somewhere and just hunt for reds

Fishing has been red hot this spring! Caught 30+ real nice rainbows in two days none under 19" with the biggest bows about 21-22". Some were caught on streamers and the rest on a #18 hot head midge. Fished the midge as a double fly setup and bounced them off the bottom, ended the day on this 25" brown. Love it when big fish take tiny flies!

Murph, I'm getting the sling pack. I did see those and may pick one up down the road for the long hikes into the mountains to hit ponds and streams. For now I think the sling will do the trick. Seems very comfortable and easy to use. Orvis had a video online for it.

    wyotaco, amazing fish!!!

Nice!! Tiny flies, long leaders, running deep and lots of patience works (plus strong shoulders and back:cool:) A 5wt rod works but is better on your shoulders to chuck a 7wt with the wind factor and heavy setup. Also using fluorocarbon leaders and 4X gets the job done better IMO. You know your ruined when you start wanting to shake off 20" rainbows so you can keep casting for something bigger....This size of Bow was the most common, had to have caught 40 of them.

What are you doing to drop the midges down deep? Split shots? I generally just drop them off a nymph or something similar but the waters I fish are generally a bit slower than the mile is.

Even better, besides the people factor...nobody was fishing over 15 miles of river where I was except me and my buddy. Tips I got for the mile are use 12 to 15ft leaders. You can buy a 9ft pre packaged one and add tippet, I would go fluorocarbon 3X or 4x. Use a double nymph pattern 15" apart with with egg, leach, scud patterns pink and orange work best there. Size 14-18 flies. I have done well with size 18 pink scuds there. One or two BB split shot 12-18in above first fly. Thingamabobber 5-10ft above spitshot.
Fish the runs, specifically the seams. DONT be like brad pitt and put on a casting show running a rig like that...you will get tangled! Constantly mend you line so that your main fly line is above your bobber, and your bobber is floating along at the same pace of the current. The mend is exhausting but critical...make it look like a big dry fly you want floating across, you know the float.
Find a good run that nobody is on, that you KNOW holds fish, and dont leave. Its either on or its not but eventually they will start biting. And early mornings/late evenings if your sick of nymphing cast streamers, smaller to bigger. Good luck!!!!

Deep nymph rigs are kinda hard to learn but work REAL good there. my setup would be.... starting from the bottom:
#18 pink scud. 15" of tippet to #18 hot head sow bug. 12-18" up use regular old spin castin splitshot size BB. Set your depth by running your thingamabobber how ever far from your splitshot...if your constantly tagging bottom them run it lower. 5-8ft is pretty standard there and being close to bottom is a good thing most of the time. Keep your flies free of moss always. And make sure your knots are GOOD! Fish the foam lines and constantly mend your line so your bobber is going along like the rest of the current. It takes a TON of patience, practice, and IBprofin!! FISH FOAM LINES

Egg, scud, leech paterns. I call hot headed sow bugs "hot headed midges". They crush it. Alcova has a fly shop, they will tell you whats up I am sure and give you tips on nymph rigs. Good luck man, you got a real good chance of landing a big boy in that water

Well I am back! I was gonna stay another night but I would have ended up fishing another day and I have a paper to write up (about trout at least). I also ran out of midges and streamers weren't hitting.

The average size, sadly my camera lens broke and I was left with a 55-210mm. That's a bit to close to shoot from the hip. I set the tripod up but never caught anything when I did :pout:. It didn't get much bigger though. I saw some HUGE fish in the pools but I wasn't able to hook em.
