Stock steels with bigger tire Pics

Nice thread. I am looking at purchasing a set of Firestone Destination A/T 235/75R-15 for the Tacoma. After reading this thread I also want to look at the Goodyear Silent Armor 235/75R-15 as well.

It's been 2 years already Pete? I remember you first getting the silent armors and from all the pictures till now looks like they've treated you more than alright good to see they are still holding up!

 

New tires are on the Tacoma. I went with black side out rather than with the raised white lettering side out.

I had 235s on stock steel for a while and absolutely wish i had gone with 30's. Wound up getting a lift which made the 235s look tiny, but honestly 30's would still look pretty good even being up a few inches.

Not sure if related but I have heard folks who go with bigger tire talked about re-gearing. Pete, I noticed you have automatic. I have a 2.7L manual. When folks talk about re-gearing, does that only applied to the auto tranny or manual as well. Might be a stupid question but I honestly do not know.

 

Old thread, but useful...hopefully the original folks can answer. With the 235/75/15 tires... would dropping the truck 2 to 3 inches front and back causing any rubbing? There's a few reason why I want this. 1. I like to get better gas mileage and raising the truck from 70 profiles to 75...I like to counter that effect. 2. I think the truck will handle better lowered versus raised. 3. I like the idea of the fender gap being smaller just as it had 31s installed. Thank you pkjr for the comparison pics of 235 vs 31s.

Tires and wheels was already on my list of things to do.

235 Cooper Discoverer AT3 love em so far, very quiet on highway and grippy on the shitty lease roads i travel for oil field work. maybe lost 1MPG

 

Pkjr, I see they are stock steelies, I was asking about the tire size being 31x10.5? I don't find any other 31 " tires measured in standard size, so was wondering if they were standard or a metric size I.e. 2xx/75-15 or such.

The above is first day I bought the truck used, it had 215 75 15 Firestone destination. Bottom is current 235 75 15 cooper discover at3.

Stock steels, 31-10.5-15 Cooper a Discoverer tires, 4.88 gearing, Detroit a True Trac limited slip, Magnafolw 25" muffler welded in stock pipes, 1.75 lift up front, 1.5" rear.

Truck runs great with this combo, pull hard on the gas and highway cruise is right where I wanted it. No rub, no issues. It's the way I'd have bought it if it was offered this way.

 

Picked up a set of BFGoodrich A/Ts yesterday. 235/75/15
Fits perfect and looks great in my opinion!

 

Just bought a '15 AC MT a couple of weeks ago and have been looking into wheels & tires options. I'd like to keep the TPMS, so I'm leaning more towards putting bigger tires on stock wheels and trying to decide whether to go with 225/75 or 235/75... looking for more feedbacks on these two sizes in the effect of power and mpg.

 

Bump... someone else gotta be running bigger tires on stock steelies...

 

Toyota really drops the ball on their products in many ways the tiny wheels and tires makes the 5 lugers look like yuck,, Bigger tires and wheels make it look great.

 

I just realized this thread really lacks first gen five luggers with bigger tires on stock steels.... anyone got any?
