    Yeah.
Wow, $20K for a 10 year old Access Cab. Low miles, but still 10 years old. These things seem to be made of gold out west.

Wow... I just bought an F150 for the wife crewcab XLT 4x4 for about 41 K CAD. That's only 32K USD for a brand new full sized V8 truck versus 20 K for a 10 year old truck!

I can't believe how well Toyotas hold value in some places.

hell no! You might as well get a first gen tundra. They are very similar in size.

I was running around in my 04 today, I forgot how much I enjoy "wearing" my Tacoma. I like driving the Tundra, I love driving the Tacoma.

Meh, I like the look of the 2nd generation Tacoma over the Tundy though. First generation Tundra's do fine off road though for sure due to their small size.

    No argument here.

I've driven a 1st gen tundra thru them forest forest trails. The 1st gen Tacoma beats them all. No constant whipping. The. I of branches against the a pillars.

2nd gen tundra, forget about it. It has no business being in the trails. Last time I was out, I had to remove my antenna, it was getting so beat up by branches.

Printing up a for sale sign now.

I must be the only one that likes white trucks. Even the wife wants me to paint it black. I just can't win.

    here you go jen,

its blue just like you wanted:

    http://salem.craigslist.org/ctd/4921494003.html

then trade the red civic in for this one:

    http://salem.craigslist.org/ctd/4916977552.html

and work out a 2 for 2 deal

not joking here, you might get the best deal trading two and buying two at the same time.

dealerships like to move vehicles and this will be an attractive idea to them.

or how do you feel about silver? http://www.captoyota.com/new/Toyota/2015-Toyota-Tacoma-Salem-0af9e36f0a0a0064594b5860c7f45239.htm

Ha!! You guys are hilarious!! Yeah, who the hell is AMY??????????????

OK, here's the plan: We're driving to Michigan, and Koditten is gonna trade his '04 Taco for our '98 plus a big bundle o' cash. :D This plan is perfect - after all, his wife doesn't like the white color, and he can't drive around with plates that say "amy" right? :D Plus then he can build the ultimate '98 by piecing together the best of his with the best of ours, AND have a big stack of cash, right? :D And maybe even finally solve the ultimate mystery of TW - this Taco's hot start issue! How cool would that be???????????? This is a win win! Who's with me here? :D

Keakar, I wish we could afford to do the plan that you posted at that dealer - the two for two swap. That blue Taco was quite purty. Although I do still really prefer the 1st gen body style. It's small size makes it so easy to maneuver in tight spaces on narrow, windy roads, which is a lot of the driving we do when we go on road trips. I must be stuck in the past or something, because I also really prefer the older styles of Accords and Civics too! I like the boxier look of the older Accords. The new ones are shaped like an oval! Kinda like that Civic at that dealer. Yuck! That Civic's color was awesome though.

We were looking at this Taco last night:

    http://www.wilsonvilletoyota.com/us...sonville-14cd712d0a0a0002336656fe4f37e3e6.htm

You guys will think I'm crazy, because the price they are asking for the year/mileage is insane. And because of that I doubt we'd even go look at it, but it is as close to exactly what we want as we can find, except for the price. And it's hilarious, because it's basically identical to Koditten's 2004, from what I can tell. It's a 2004 with all the stuff we want - lowish miles (90K), V6, automatic, 4wd, 1st gen style, TRD Off Road, 1 owner Carfax who lived in Oregon the whole time (no salt) and serviced regularly at dealer and now being sold by another dealer. I'd rather it was black, but I don't hate white. That price is just sooooooooooooo much though for an 11 yr old truck w/nearly 100K! If history repeated itself and the truck went belly up on us at 200K, we'd only get ~10 yrs out of it for $23K! Good 1st gen Tacos with lowish miles in good shape are so hard to come by for a decent price, especially with all the specifics we want. Which was why we decided to do the freaking engine swap in the first place! Argh. Which brings me back full circle.

Speaking of that Taco, I found this article yesterday that I thought was pretty interesting, about heat soak problems in general (not specific on any particular type of vehicle):

    http://www.roddingroundtable.com/tech/articles/heatsoak.php

Seems relevant to our situation, right? What do you guys think?

everything but the price and those damn ugly white gages looks nice, hope you can talk em back close to 20 "and change" but as you have seen these first gens go fast and its rare to find a nice one so even a high price is worth it IMHO because you may never find another one.

what did they offer you for your truck?

first mod to do after purchase is swap gage cluster over to black ones.

there are other places to get it but just as an example, you can see it here: http://www.blackcatcustom.com/toyota_tacoma2.htm

and this is how easy it is to do this mod: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKkxwhRtzv0

This is funny. The wife drive the 04 and just commented how she hates the white background. She just asked if we could get it changed to black. Not even two hours ago.

    Ha!! :D

So whatdya think about swapping Tacos? :D C'mon, you didn't REALLY wanna hold onto that super awesome, super hard to find 1st gen you have, did you? :D Plus, then the wife gets our black Taco!!! Win win!!

Tell your wife she could have this Taco, with a new engine and fuel system. And just a little teeny tiny weird problem that no one can figure out. :D

PS - added bonus - our plates don't say AMY [IMG]
