Ill teach you only if you join the ironworkers! Its enough that wood butchers take our work! For reals though, i love hearing that we are crazy! Makes me proud to be third generation! And to be honest, its an adrenaline high ALL DAY.. Learn to weld, its a hell of a skill.

In MY OPINION, i think john q public has a bad perception of the unions in general. Companies like target, and Walmart like to bash unions and make them look bad. The truth is, if unions were to disappear, people's wages would start tumbling down, kids would be going back to work, and we would all be working astronomical hours, for sh!t pay. The other reasons is unions would drive up costs more so than most "think " they already do, in some areas. Imagine the price of your house if it was all union labor. Its a none fact unions also set the price, or prevailing wage, for non union. Look, i aint saying there perfect, lord knows they aren't. My District (nevada, cali, Arizona and Hawaii i think) just screwed me out of a decent raise. We are gonna see 3 dollars in 3 years. Now in phoenix, reno, fresno san diego thats ok. But in a high cost of living place like san Francisco it blows. Three dollars is jack sh!t. And before you assume or talk any sh!t i think you need to realize exactly what it is an IRONWORKER does. Again, its not perfect, and MAYBE they had there heyday when gramps was a member. But i will NEVER, in MY LINE OF WORK, work non union. I have friends, ney, BROTHER IRONWORKERS who came in from the non union that have told me too many horror stories. And if you believe all companies treat there employees with love and resprespect, then i suggest you take off your rose colored sunglasses. oh, and anyone making the "dues argument", shut the fu€k up, that sh!t is a tax write-off. Btw, i am in no means trying to disrespect you, or anyone.

Well, if it works for you, great! However, I have worked in predominantly union run industries my entire career for non-union companies and have never heard anyone - well, management anyways. Guys, like yourself, will always have their own opinion and may share when not wanted - say a negative thing about unions and out union counterparts. I can also honestly say that my pay is higher than a similar position with our union counterpart as well as equivalent and in some ways better benefits.

Its like apples and oranges. Atleast we can agree on tacomas, hopefully 1st gen :poking:
Im not one of those guys who is "blind" and won't recognize the cons.. Hell i know the ironworkers have had there share of controversy lately. But it works for me and my family, and i wouldn't have it any other way.
