    Matt Hegarty, a starter on Notre Dame’s offensive line, will play elsewhere in 2015.

    After overcoming a stroke in 2012, Hegarty played in 12 games in 2013 and started 11 of the Fighting Irish’s 13 games in 2014 at center and guard.
    Despite his extensive playing time, Hegarty explained that his decision to pursue a graduate transfer for his final season of college football stemmed from the uncertainty surrounding his standing on the team’s depth chart heading into the 2015 season.

    He and two other players were jumped by a large crowd. It really sucks because they were minding their own business. From what I've read and seen, both Dak and defensive end Torrey Dale were hit with beer bottles. Dak was cut up all over the place. And here I am about 20 minutes away from where it all happened. I drove by the concert where it took place around noon.

Such sentiments grew exponentially during Sanford’s introductory press conference when he connected championship football to which team runs the ball most effectively. Irish fans clamoring for Notre Dame to commit to the rushing game may have been too busy jumping for joy at Sanford’s comment to hear the full quote where the new offensive coordinator may have tipped his hand regarding the future of Notre Dame’s offense.
