Stealership rip offs

Just called the dealership I bought my '15 taco from less than a month ago regarding the seatbelt chime disable. They want $101.19 just to turn the chime off. Unbelievable.

Rant over. Just had to share this ridiculousness

 

I made turning off the seat belt chime and tinting the front door windows a condition of the sale, and they couldn't get it done fast enough!!

 

Just do it yourself. Faster than driving over there.

 

its a customizable feature and should be free for the dealer to change it for you (pretty sure it even says in the manual its customizable) . All they have to do is plug in their techstream computer, go to customization features and turn the chime off and 2 min later the chime is off.

I did it myself with an ELM327 bluetooth adaptor and a telnet client on my laptop.

 

^Is that the paint sealant, undercoating, or Scotchgard for the seats?

 

OP where you located in the sierra nevada's? ill probably be up in the mammoth lakes area next weekend. If your close id be happy to bring my laptop and techstream cable and turn the chime off for ya.

I would contact my salesperson and see if they will intervene on your behalf. You could remind them of the price you paid and all the great things they probably told your about their dealership, customer service, etc. If this is your home area let them know this will probably not be the last Toyota you purchase and a little goodwill goes a long way. I am basing this on this being a relatively quick and easy procedure ( if it is ). Maybe they can do at your first oil change. If you have not completed your Toyota survey you could leverage with that as dealers like to get high marks. Tell them thousands of TW members are awaiting the outcome. 2/3 of the dealerships in my area won't do it because of liability reasons. The 3rd will do it for about $60.

I drive on a private dirt road almost daily. I am in/out of truck on the property and the seatbelt chime is really annoying.

That was my first attempt. The salesman was my BFF before I got the keys of course. Now he won't give me the time of day. For being the only dealership here and a fairly low volume of sales you'd think they'd be happy to hook a guy up that just dropped well over 35K. I loved that I could do it myself in my FJ. Honestly this should be something customizable on the engine system. It's MY truck I should be able to fiddle with whatever sounds I want. I really want to be able to unlock all the doors with one push of the fob too. If I was quick with the fj it would unlock all with only two beeps. The Taco always beeps four times. Drives me bonkers. The beep needs to go as well. It's like a beacon that says hey I'm over here and my truck is unlocked all the way around too! And it's always fun having the truck beep after pressing it in my pocket while out hunting lol

I tried to get either tint, a roof rack or bed extender but they weren't having it. I already got navigation for free and a smoking sticker price, plus they gave me more than They should have on my trade. Around here there's a line out the door for a 4x4 taco with these options and color. They had to find this one and do a dealer trade for it. Had I tried to walk away, it would have sold within hours to someone else.

Good lawyers, bad lawyers, good plumbers, bad plumbers - good dealers and bad dealers. I am very happy with the service I get from my dealer (I also have purchased half a dozen vehicles from them, and they disabled my warning chime and tinted my front windows as a condition of the sale, after the final price was agreed to - not after the sale), but nothing is for free! Most dealers have a minimum charge for any elective vehicle service other than warranty work. Turning off the seat belt chime falls under that service policy. Many dealers would prefer to use the "liability" excuse, rather than having to tell a customer that it will cost 50-60 bucks or more for 10 minutes lap top work. Many dealers have a policy of "keeping" a vehicle at least an hour for any service work so as to create the illusion of "value" even if the job only takes a fraction of that - time is money - the premise; if it takes longer it costs more. This thread suggests that: you can get your seat belt chime disabled, for free by some dealers, for a fee, or via boot leg tech stream or OBD code manipulation. Remember your dealer experience when it comes time for your next purchase. peace.

 

^Nope. When the time comes for your next purchase, you buy from whichever dealer gives you the best price, and do maintenance/repairs at whichever dealer that gives you the best service. No need to couple these two sides of the business.

 

Well, we've never done this before. But seeing as it's special circumstances and all, he says I can knock a hundred dollars off that Trucoat.

My dealer told me that he would sell me a "Special Edition Last off the Line 2015". Apparently it comes with badging stating that it's one of the last one hundred 2nd gen's made. And it came with rustproofing and a custom antenna.
