Best lift for off road use will NOT be a 6" drop bracket...but rather a well designed 3" lift like OME, icon or the like

You can always get a RCD 4 inch db lift or fabtech.

What's the reason a 6" isn't good for off roading. I wanna keep my height but make it a little better is there really nothing that can be done I know the simple solution would be take it off but keeping it on is there nothing really to be done

    Yes sir
6" lifts are for crawling around malls

Over 3 inches of lift screws a lot of stuff up that you have to play around with (brake lines, angles of everything, etc.). Gets really expensive and is quite simply useless for off roading, chances are pretty high that if you see a guy with 6 inches or more is just doing it for looks (although unless you have 35's it looks weird). Guys in Hawaii (not all of course) seem to love keeping their 265's and throwing on 6" + lifts.

The reason everyone bags on DB for offroading is because of the DB itself. The middle of the truck is high, but the DB itself is sitting 2" higher then a stock tacoma. That can get in the way with rocks. If your style of offroading involves climbing over rocks, the drop bracket could get scraped up and possibly get knocked loose. You may also weld the DB to lessen the chance of that happening.

I've been doing some research myself for the past few months as I am looking to get a 6" lift but make it more offroad capable. This is the set up I am looking into installing as a 3" is more for very serious, who cares if it gets scratched and dented offroader. I mostly adventure on mountain roads and rarely go over rocks.

For the front, BDS 6" lift, with extended length King coilovers, Total Chaos regular length upper and lower control arms with the heim pivot upgrade designed for 6" lifts, dual shock hoops with an additional King shock being used, Pilfrey front bumper with the skid plate and a winch.

For the rear, 6" Alcan full leaf pack with Orbit-eye to allow full flex, Rear extended length King shocks, King 2" bump stops, extended length break lines.

In addition, one-piece drive shaft, 4.56 front and rear gears, 35"x12.5" tires, fiberglass fenders front and rear to accommodate the larger tires, Pilfreybilt rear bumper.

I was checking out every DB out there and decided BDS was the best for me as they offer lifetime warranty, and they include a skid plate. Fabtech's spindles are super bulky and has huge turning stops which limit the turning radius compared to all other DB. This set up will cost around 10k, but if you like the looks of a 6" lift, and you are not an "extreme" offroader, this set up will handle very well on the trails.

    It's Pelfreybilt, not Pilfrey. :)

    No prob man.

OP, you might as well make the best out of your db lift since it's already on. I would pick up some extended travel coilovers and run them with the least amount of preload, and pick up some upper control arms made for the ext travel. Lose the blocks in the back and get a good leafpack that match the front height.
Look at some of the db lift builds here that actually wheel with them and see what size rim/tire combos they are running. I think one of them would be able to point you in the right direction since they probably been where you are now.

Right on we.good info.. I'm my truck now I have the pro comp 6" db total caos uca fabtech shocks/ coils.. also I have 35's so it looks nice n all my brake lines n all other mods for the hight is already done. Cause I have the 3" body also. I'd like to throw up a few pics for u guys if someone could explain. How to do it real quick idk cNt seem to figure it out. N also yeah I'm in Hawaii we all kinda go for that stomping look with these new tacos if not just run str8 axle. My str8 axel I could put my front tire in my bed of my taco n still be on the ground I'm the rear. This second gen I got now I can get up a 2" hill without my rear floating.

    Thanks for the replies guys

so you're sitting on 9" of lift? lord

for posting pics, if youve already uploaded them to a website like photobucket you can just copy and paste the image address. or you can copy and paste the URL from facebook and add in "[IMG]" at the end of it and it should post. for example if the image address was www.tacomaPic.com you would put [IMG] and it would post the image

Might be easier to just buy a new truck and lift it 3 inches and use the 9" one to crawl the malls:D
