Thoughts on 37s

I just cut all that crap off at once. Only two cuts with a sawzall.

 

A 6" drop bracket lift sure helps though Not that I would run that nor recommend it.

 

That looks like a mix of an old Volkswagen dune buggy and a model T. Haha

 

What about the firewall area? It kind of looks like you might have tubbed it there, but I can't see it that well in that pic...

 

I just cut the fender aprons off of the firewall. After that I built an engine cage to support the radiator and fenders. I didn't tub it, but I did beat on it with a sledge hammer.

 

Your LT's 1" push forward with your maxed out caster must help a lot. I have beat my firewall back so much the foot rest and kick panels don't really fit there anymore and I still rub my 33's on hard hits...

I think that is just your frame begging for mercy. A cage solves a lot of those issues when you are jumping hard. Take your Ori's and bumps off and let the jack down, you will see exactly what is rubbing where. The frame rails torque in a LOT from that point. Imagine the forces of that A arm smashing into the bump...and the front shock bottoming out and flexing the upper mount...it twists the frame rail a ton. Even a simple tube between the upper shock mounts will help significantly. Another thing to consider is that your body mounts, like mine, are clapped out and the cab is sagging into the tire a lot more. When I did my solid cage mounts I jacked up the cab before welding the mounts in....it moved more than an inch. Also, I can't fit my kick panel or footrest on at all. I actually stretched the sheetmetal so far it tore.

 

Would a 1" body lift help in the foot well area significantly?

 

Only if your factory body mounts are blown out from doing a lot of jumping. They are just made of soft rubber.

 

If you want to utilize the full potential of LT then I'd assume it was cut very similar. But, with your drop bracket I'm sure there's nowhere near the amount needed lol. Just like username said, take off your shocks and bumps, put your wheel on and Jack it up to see where it rubs; and then clearance it!

 

I've cleared it out with the ORI's out. In fact, I drove it around with no front shocks and got no rubbing. I did have the bumps in though... I guess I should try that.

I do think that frame flex/cab movement has a lot to do with the rubbing. I have a 1" BL, but the cab still moves a lot on hard hits...

I did not beat my sheet metal back quite that far! haha

 

I even had to adjust my clutch because the floor was a lot closer than it used to be. Tires clear though...

 

Are military surplus tires going to ride so rough that goin to have to go mid travel to get it back to stock feel?

 

Depends on how sensitive you are and what rims you have. I DD double beadlocks, and they aren't balanced, and it seems to run down the road just fine. For me. Not good if you are sensitive. I would rate them better than swampers and worse than KM2's.

 

Ok so I'm looking at the Goodyear radials and the BFG Baja's from trailreadyfab.com and thinking about mounting them on Pro Comp Xtreme steelies which ever I decide on. Like I said not going to be airing down and wheeling hard in the corners. Just trying to have a good looking and capable truck for not a lot of money. So how does this set up sound?

 

I really like the baja's a lot. I got the grooved version, they do well all around.

 

Username, you daily drive that truck? I thought it was a weekend toy. Or do you have another truck on beadlocks and 37s?
