I bought a 2015 dcsb, and am just wondering if the airbag light below the head unit display is supposed to be on when I'm driving without a passenger - I thought it was only supposed to be illuminated when there is someone/thing in the passenger seat, and in that case have the 'on' or 'off' designation.

Am I wrong? Is this the correct behavior?...

I don't think mine is lit up like that unless I have a passenger in the seat or something heavy sitting in the seat.

I believe if you rest anything on your pass seat over 40lbs without passenger seat bult buckled that SRS indicator will illuminate.

Here as well. But, it doesn't take much to get it to turn on. Groceries will even do it.

My moms Camry come on and off with the slightest pressure on the pass seat.
    Very odd.

If I put a 24pack of beer on my seat it goes off. 12pack doesn't.

It's not normal for the Passenger "Air Bag" light to be light up without anything at all in the passenger seat.

It sounds like half the people posting here have a truck where the passenger air bag is turned on when nothing is in the seat?

Clearwater, the owner's manual seems to imply it shouldn't be on - but it isn't explicit... also asking the service dept. at the dealership resulted in ambiguity. Thanks for the helpful remark, though!

Snowbrdr, that's what I was thinking - and the service folks at the dealership said that they aren't sure because the airbag indicators vary between models... I spoke with a couple of the guys on the phone and sent pics of the what is displayed while I'm in the driver's seat (as seen in the OP), and while I'm in the passenger's seat (the 'on' indicator illuminates, additionally). Alternatively, if I push on the passenger seat with my hand it will illuminate as 'off.'

At any rate, I thought that the 'air bag' shouldn't be illuminated without either 'on' or 'off' being active.

All I can speak to is my '13, but I'd not expect your '15 to be different.

Mine looks just like yours with no passenger.

The various conditions (adult, child, empty) and the lighting combos, as well as the device activations are laid out in my manual on pages 101, 102, 103.

I agree that the book does not speak specifically to 'that' light. I think it's safe to assume that with the key on or key run that light is always lit. It is somewhat illogical, however, I suspect it's a 'system is working', (as in detecting what's happening) feature. IT testers might call it an undocumented feature. ;)

With an adult the 'on' light illuminates. Everything is activated.

With a tiny adult, child or child restraint system the 'off' light comes on, and the FRONT bag is deactivated (not the sides or curtains)

Empty, neither 'on' or 'off' lights, but the FRONT bag is deactivated (again, not side or curtains)

The SRS warning light the book refers to is not the light you are looking at, it's the one in the cluster.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks, it does. The newest Toyota I've had previous to this is my '97 4runner, so I have no familiarity with all these new high tech gadgets... :D

2014 here. My "Airbag" light is on constantly no matter what. When there is weight under 90 lbs then another light "Off" comes on as well. I think what you are seeing is normal.

So yesterday I was driving alone and the airbag light was on. So looks like my previous post was incorrect.

    2015 btw.

My 2015 has the "Airbag" illuminated at all times. There is an "ON" & "OFF" just under it. If someone or something is in the seat, the ON illuminates. I sat in the passenger seat with the key turned to the on position, the ON illuminated. I raised up off the seat...it stayed illuminated. Turned the key back off and then on while off the seat. The Off illuminated.
