Tacoma transplant 2.7 with 4.0 litre

    HELLO! Just wondering if this would be an easy task? I have the chance to purchase a 2005 tacoma with 4.0 liter engine with only 75000 km, 6 speed standard transmission, 4x4 double cab, rolling chase with all components, except body. I currently own a 2009 2.7 liter engine,with 5 speed standard transmission, 4x4 access cab. Would the 4.0 liter engine and transmission, transfer case, button up to my 2009 tacoma? The rolling chase that I'm thinking of buying was in a roll over, non repairable. The price is only $1500 Canadian eh! Thanks in advance!

    I would imagine that if everything were there, including the computer and wiring, then it would be doable. Not sure why you'd want to do it though. Might make more sense to just trade in yours and buy a 4.0L one?

    You may have to re-do the motor/transmission mounts on the frame. Some basic measuring and comparisons should verify this. You didn't state whether it was a LB or SB DC so you may also need a completely new drive shaft. Since you have access to the rolling chasis, I would take several measurements of components locations (ie, steering location, cross members if any, hoses, etc.) several times and compare them with your current set-up before you purchase.

    I will not give you a definitive "Yes, it work fine" because I simply don't know. It would be easier to say yes if the body dimensions were identical (reg cab vs. reg cab). I would investigate every knook and cranny to see if how drastic it would be if any changes are required. It sounds like you have to components to do it though.



    If it is what you really want to do, then kudos. Keep in mind you have an 09 with plenty of life left on the warranty. Swapping the motors out now, IMHO, is not a wise decision. I would want until the warranty had expired.

    yeah like 98 said, its gonna be hard to say. theres alot of factors that come into play when you start doing stuff like that. IMO jsut buy a 6 cyl. i mean unless you are a really and i mean really good mechanic than i would stray away form this. now if it was in an older truck say an late 80s model with not all that facny computer wiring and such then yeah. but for what its worth i would stick to what you have.

    The only reason I thought about doing it, was because of the power. At the time I purchased it I was doing service work out of the city. I was thinking of the money I was going to save on gas. Because the price of fuel is only going up! I was putting on at least 550 km (342 miles) every 3rd day. Good idea about the roll cage!

    Even if you dont do the transplant, I would just buy it and part out. The motor alone is worth more than what your paying for the whole thing. Good money making opportunity!

    4.10 gears, sliders, and lots of buttons.
    If you do the transplant, you may want to considering beefing up the motor mounts, while the engine is out. Also, maybe freshen up the V6. New pistons, and maybe some other little go fast parts, and you could have an NA 300 hp motor....
