Got the extended warranty paper from toyota about 5 years from getting the truck to replace dtrl if they melt. Mine has not melted yet by I only have 22,000 on it. Will all dtrl melt overtime? Does anyone have a lot of miles on theirs that has not melted?

I havn't checked mine. Although im rarely in my truck for very long at any given time. So i dont know if i give them much chance to really heat up the housing.

I checked mine when the TSB came out and the tech at the dealership checked them out last time I was in there too , no signs of any melting

Replaced OEM lights with LED's for the following: MAP, Dome, License plate, and reverse lights.
I just installed LED DTRL switchbacks from Jumper. Can LED's cause Melting?

So I upgraded to VLEDs replacement LED's. $50.00 per pair. That they use only 20% or less of the power of the OEM's should keep them much cooler and they have a heat-sink setup to help them last.
They are not switchbacks, so the look is the same and I judge them as bright as the filament bulb. Had them since October 14. Have to include resistors into the rear turn signal bulb wiring; resistors only needed when using turn signal; All is good so far!!

imho With the size of the pre-12 dtrl housing, it'd make sense that replacement didn't fix the heat problem.

I guess if you take a long trip its best to leave the headlights on in the day since the dtrl turn off with the headlights.

Just replace with LED .. they put out no where near the heat of a halogen bulb.

I think those DRLs are incandescent lamps.

Mine melted within 4 years. (2009 model) and Toyota replaced them for free with upgraded models that haven't melted since.

Do earlier models not have a way to turn of the DRLs? On my 13 I can turn all the lights off...
