Engine sometimes hard to start

Has anyone ever had problems starting up the motor in the mornings? My truck is brand new, but sometimes starts like there is a heavy load on the engine. I have even tried starting it with the AC, radio, lights and everything else I could find turned off, and it still starts up like it is 30 deg below outside. Keep in mind I live in Arizona.

I am thinking of taking it to the dealer soon, but if this is normal I wont bother. Any advice would be greatly apreciated!

 

That happens to me too.... it just cranks up, then i have to do it again...

 

That really seems weird especially for a new engine. It started doing that to me at 300 miles. I only have 600 now and it is still doing it. I will take it into the dealer and see what they say, and I will post the results on this thread for future reference.

 

First impression to me maybe they put a bum battery in there-sounds like a lack of cranking amperage IMO

 

I thought the same thing as well, plus the weather here is starting to get hot as usual.

 

I will take it in tomorrow and post a reply on what they say is the cause. I am sure it is something minor, just dont want to leave it at that and then the starter burn out in the future.

 

Before I bought my truck I asked a guy at work with the exact same one how he liked it....He told me he loved it but his only beef was that it sometimes rolled over like it wasn't going to start.Sure enough,I found the exact same thing.That was almost a year ago and I contribute it to just a trait of the truck and it's never been a real problem.

 

It's NORMAL. Geez, search a little. The ECU computes the next 100 lunar eclipses before it injects any fuel.

Hopefully you'll get used to it. I'm still periodically amazed how much faster my old Kubota (diesel) tractor starts than my new-fangled truck.

 

It happens almost everyday. Usually if the truck is parked for a few hours. Which would make one think it is more than a battery that is the issue. I trust your opinion Chris, and hopefully the dealership wont give me crap about it. I was once a mechanic myself.

 

So I need to look at the horiscopes in the paper before tempting to start my engine? It didnt say that in the owners manual.

 

Mine does it once in a while also. Bumpin the gas just a smidgen seems to help.

Which means - Toyota put 486 computers in our trucks.

 

So I took the truck in today. They claimed to have fixed the issue. We will see in the morning tomorrow

 

I recently sold my '93 Isuzu pickup and I just loved the way it started. Just touch the key and it fired right up. My new Taco has to turn over for just a bit before it fires up. Ya reckon the dealer can work on that? Would be nice......

 

Yeah the truck did the same thing this morning. I called the dealership again today and told the service manager what was going on, he treated me as if I was stupid and didnt know what I was talking about. I have a feeling they didnt do anything to the truck. After a few choice words I told him that if the truck starts eating through starters, they better eat the bill. I wasnt too worried about the issue, just curious if anyone else has had the same thing happen to them. And didnt want this to lead to a larger problem.

 

Both dealerships here in Tucson are horrible. I am going to PHX tomorrow instead. I have to pick up a war buddy from the airport anyway.
