Finally made the switch to the Tacoma - I bought a double cab 4x4 with TRD off-road package, I love it.
I liked the tundra but didn't need the big truck for work anymore .

I just switched from a Tundra Crewmax to the same truck as yours. Nice to have my garage back and so much more fun to drive. I really like the V-6 smoothness over the V-8 and a great shifting transmission.

Yes i totally agree the engine is so much smoother and hopefully a little better on gas- my tundra was getting 13 on mixed driving

Should be better but not much 19 is avg it seems from the mileage trackers on here.

I love the truck but the v8 is sick. I like the 4.7 first gen tundra motor the best. That's what Chas truck has and it is a really great sounding motor.

    Was your tundra modified?

    lol tacoma v6 smoothness?!
the 1GRFE doesnt hold a candle to 3URFE... seriosuly this is the most ridiculous rubbish ive read on TW all day...

the 1GRFE was the nosiest, rattliest, roughest running motor ive ever owned in my entire life. the auto tranny on the taco shifts like a dump truck...the 5.7 is light years ahead as far as refinement. the entire engine and drive train are like a Cadillac compared to the tacoma as far as smoothness goes. 381 HP, oh, and the gas mileage is the same as the v6.

I still have my 2000 Tundra with over 200K. I like it 10 times better than the 2008 Crewmax limited I had. I just never liked the bigger truck. My v6 is quiet and smooth on my Tacoma. Bigger is not always better.

The tacoma feels smoother on power delivery and quietness of engine- yes you can feel the shifts but its not harsh by any means. The tacoma to me feels better built . Ive had 3 different tundras a 2000, 2007, 2014 and the tacoma feels very similar in size to the 2000 .

Low MPG numbers can be a bit deceptive. If we go by EPA combined his old truck was 15 and his new truck 18. That's "only" 3 MPG. But the reality is that his fuel costs drop by 20% compared to the old truck. Or about $330 per 10K miles assuming $3/gal gas. Assuming a 200K lifetime to the truck that would be $6600 saved. It ain't a Prius to be sure, and there are other mid-size trucks posting more impressive numbers as well, but he will save a not insignificant amount with his Tacoma!

OP, enjoy the new truck! My 2015 DCSB TRD OR 4X4 gets picked up from the dealer on Monday. Hurray!

I almost think you're trolling, but probably just passionate.

I hardly find it the most rubbish you've read all day, most of TW is in agreement with statements you're disagreeing with. I'm curious as to whether or not you got a lemon, because the Tacoma doesn't shift hard at all unless you're in the manual maybe. And you would have to run the Tacoma like a dog to get the same mileage as a hypermiling Tundra.

By the way a lightyear is a measure of distance, not time.

no, just according to 3 years of real life ownership and 60,000 miles

this is true but im just making a comparison that i feel is obvious enough, its really indisputable. drive both vehicles. park them next to one another and run them... im not saying one is better than the other. each of their +'s -'s.... tacoma is awesome but i try to keep a unbiased opinion with (all) cars and not get caught up in a love fest... just trying to be real. not trolling. love cars as much as the next guy around here...

the Tacoma V6 is a solid engine. prob one of the most dependable v6s out there. i beat the piss out of mine and got 17mpg all day long. i drove the truck, i didnt let the tach tell me how to drive. but to call it smooth i feel like is a bit of a reach.

The only thing for me is I don't see why yours wasn't smooth. Mine admittedly is probably a bit clunky due to 100k miles but I've driven 2012s and 2014s and they feel like driving on a cloud (compared to mine) I just think for some reason your transmission was different than others. If the tundra was any smoother than the Tacomas I've driven it must not even let you know it's shifting.

The new Tacoma(with few exceptions) is the same size. I have an 02 AC Tundra and a 15 DCSB Taco....Same length, same height, same wheelbase....Taco is roughly 3" narrower. Pretty much why I bought the Taco, wanted to get the same size truck as I've been driving the last 14 years....new Tundras were much bigger than what I wanted.
