I've tried searching for this but never really came up with a right or clear answer.

I've got a pair of low mileage 2010 tacoma dcsb v6 coils that were given to me after lifting a guy i knows truck and wondered if i could use those coils on a set of bilstein 5100s for a 1st gen on my 98?

Ive got stock struts now with a spacer and they are shot and was going to go the eibach/bilstein route but after having these left over i wondered if they would work and how much lift they would net if any?

    Anyone know the spring rate?

You can't use 2nd gen coils on a first gen.

Toytecs eibach spring is the same for both 1st and 2nd gen, why does that work but a stock coil couldn't?

You can do it, but I think there will be issues with the stock shock/strut being to short. If I recall, even stock 2nd gen springs are 2" longer than the 1st gen. (I'm running 2nd gen coilover coils and they're 16" rather than the 14" first gen coils) So, you'd be essentially running a lift spring without upgrading to a longer shock, potentially causing you to ruin the seals on the shock by hitting the stop all the time. I'd grab the springs, measure them to see the difference from your stock ones and grab some (cheap?) shocks to assemble with them at the same time.

I'm using 2007 DCLB springs on my 5100. The clip is on the lowest setting. The lift height was 2" over stock springs on the same setting. The springs are a little more firm then the stock springs. They work ok with a 5100, I would not use them on a stock lenght shock. Remember they are different rates from side to side, if you get them wrong it will have a bad lean.

I found a set of 2015 TRD front springs, shocks, and rear shocks. Would this be a cheap leveling kit for my 02 TRD DC Pre-runner? My truck doesnt see much off road use. If it would work would the ride stay the same? My truck has 75000 miles I dont feel that the stock suspension that thrashed at this point but would like a subtle lift. What do you guys think?

I guess most missed the fact I said I would put these on 5100s not stock length shocks.

I'll pull them out and take measurements compared to stock and maybe throw them on to try out.

The list of 2nd gen coils, lengths and ratings. Click on each spring and you can see the differences. They will "fit" but will prolly ride very stiff. 883's are the one for sure crossover from 1st and 2nd gen that will work and I can say from experience that 883's are a bit stiff, not overly so, but more than I wanted.

Do you know what coil number you are working with?

Edit: I just re-read your post and realized you are using stock coils from a 2nd gen, so nevermind

    Did this happen?

    Any new info on this?

I have a 2010 and a 1996 Tacoma, both on spacer lift (which I wanna remove). Wondering if I could buy one set of springs for the '10 and use the ones I remove on the '96, removing both spacers lifts buying one set of springs.

As far as I've read on this forum (which I've done quite a bit), the 2010 springs should be around 550 lbf/in which might be on the stiffer side, but not as stiff as the OME 883 which are advertised as 588 lbf/in.

    I just did this.
    It's about a 2.5" lift using gen 2 coils on a gen 1.
Spring height difference is around 3/4", 14.25" vs 13.5" so they will fit.
Ride is rough and I can't recommend this.

Thanks. I actually did it as well.

    Used 2010 TRD Sport 4x4 V6 DCSB front springs on a 1996 SR5 4x4 V6 Xtracab.

I got similar results 2"-2.5" lift. Ride was rough, but I added a front bumper and winch which is 68kg (about 150lbs) and it is better. Not sure if still rough/bad, I do not have a nice truck to compare to.

    Thanks...
I only did this spring swap just because I couldn't find any other info on this.
How was the alignment and drivability so far?
This truck is a 2003 TRD-OR PreRunner 2.7 so probably lighter in front than yours.

I'll most likely revert back to the original coils before he starts driving again if alignment or other issues become a problem.

It is a bit hard to say tbh. There are a few factors involved.

I stopped driving the truck as a daily in like 2015 and then I rolled the truck on it side in 2017 on a camping trip and while the body was repaired, the lower rear a-arm mount was like 25mm pushed backwards. After this I stopped driving the truck for a long time. I started to repair/restore it september 2023.

I spent a day bending the mount it back to like 10mm, can't remember, but I do remember I didn't get it all the way.

Truck had a spacer lift and absolute blown shocks for I do not know how long. I replaced the springs with the gen2 and shocks with Duralast gold, budget wise. Because I'll be doing a long travel build with Bilsteins sometime maybe next year.

After that I aligned myself with a camber tool and toe plates. I got camber the same on both sides (for it to drive straight), and maximized caster (to compensate for the lift), but one side is lower than the other one (due to the bent mount). And aligned for toe-in, like 5mm on the tire edge. Not sure about the angle.

The truck drives straight and feels decent to like 70mph, I do not have a need to go higher than that, and actually wind noise from a door seal is my biggest complain at that speed. I do feel like I should use both hands on the steering at that speed, if that means something. 50mph feels nice, even one hand on the steering.

Tires do not seem to be wearing badly.

As for driveability I love it :):) I am dailing it at the moment, and while I have the gen2 I really like the experience in the gen1.

If I were you, and it depends on budget and life of the parts installed, Id get the Bilsteins 5100 for the front lift with the stock springs. That seems to be the bang for buck by far.

For the rear, I'd get the HD leaf pack from General springs with the 5100. Or if you are mechanically inclined I'd remove the second and third leaf and "arch" them on a hydraulic press. I think add a leaf or spacers make the ride worse.

I hope this helps, it's quite the story.

I feel like pictures are missing :D:D

What a story! Nice looking truck!!!
    Thanks for sharing.

I just reverted the Prerunner to original coils and it still rides like a dump truck. LOL
