for a rear shock or shock in general for off road performance

    2.0 coilovers with remote reservoir
    or
2.5 with remote reservoir (not coil over)

what are the advantages to a coil over?

i know the 2.0 and 2.5 are references to the reservoir or at least thats my understanding of it...some help

i didnt think you would get coilovers in the rear i thought they were just for the front.

thats a coilover like the ones in the front it just doesnt have the spring on it thats why it has that black sleeve around it for so you can put one on

I havent done any temperature tests on coilovers, but I know the 2.0's are the same size as the bilstien 5100's (or close enough), and can say that you have to work hard to get them to heat up when off raoding. I would guess, that if the temp doesnt get above 100* out...You wouldnt be able to over heat them at all.

between the 2" and 2.5, the diference is the diameter of the shock body. The 2.5 is larger and allows more piston surface and oil capacity lending it to have better dampening ability and the extra oil should make it run cooler than the 2.0 also.

I heated my rear 5100s to the point that I couldnt hold my hand on them for more than about a second while out wheelin last week in about 40* weather(once I realized they were so hot I let em cool down a bit). So, i'd say its more than possible to get em hot as I wasnt even trying, granted I was mobbing down some old dirt logging/fire roads at a decent clip for probably 5-10 miles. The front OMEs only got a tad warm though, so I was less than impressed with my Bilsteins when I found them to be cookin hot.

Thats pretty interesting...I wonder if the Billies had enough oil in them?? When I ran my heat tests, it was in about 90* weather, and for about 12 miles at 35 mph + on a pretty rough trail. The OME's got to 140*, and the Billies got to about 190*...

    http://www.allphaseoffroad.com/products.html?id=443

and thanks chris, how do those 5100's compare with my N182s in back, i don't want waste money getting a shock w/ remote reservoir and have it not be worth it

The n182's are a better shock. They run cooler, and are a little softer dampened.

those are weird...i haven't heard of a coilover in the rear either...thats what the leaves are for...hmmm

depending on how much more the 2.5's are i would say go for them... that way you will be less likely to want to upgrade in the future, which would cost you more.

Go big or go home son!!!

    haha

that being said the fox 2.0's are GREAT shocks...specially the remote reservoir ones

those kings are nice! but that price is crazy it all depends on the terrain that youll be driving the most on if your driving really fast in the desert then yes do it but if its the road or rockcrawling or something slow then i say no

Those Kings will not bolt up in the rear. You'll need some custom fab work to fit 'em. Most likely some custom shock hoops. You'll also need to modify the valving to work with your setup.

You're looking at a performance shock designed to be used in custom applications. Set up properly they'll kick serious ass, but it'll take some work to get them set up right.

For reference, here's the custom shock hoop I ran when I was running 2.5" 12" travel Fox shocks on the rear of my truck:
