I searched but wanted to hear new posts about the Suspension Differences.

Is the TRD too Bouncy? Will the TRd suspension help keep the rear end from sagging when Towing?

I think TRD is an upgrade no matter how you rock it. If you get the Off Road..you get the Locker...a well worth upgrade. I just bought the TRD Off Road and it rides very nice...I hit speed bumps on a stock suspension and it is plush

x2 the TRD package comes w/ Billys all the way around...it rides much smoother and performs better off road  Not to mention the locker

Get the TRD, Its worth the little bit extra you pay over the SR5. The locker pays for itself

    Thanks Tri(Sounds like Tree)!

I am soo excited about owning a Truck. It will be my first 4x4 or Truck for that matter.

I am interested in getting the Locker. Funny thing today i went to Test drive a Used and when I went to lock the Diff via the button on the dash, it just kept blinking RED. The sales guy din't know waht was wrong or if we needed to be stopped??

Anyway, other than that, it drove like a slot car. Very fun and I had a smile the whole time. The Tacoma bug has bitten deep! :p

Didn't see all the responses till i posted. thanks for the tips.

I want the Auto, but isn't there somewher to get the Added Tranny cooler for Towing?
    couldn't find it on website

Plus if you plan on wheeling the Locker is a nice thing to have when you get stuck...4x4 is the way to go. I bought a new one because Tacomas hold their value so well that the used ones were almost as much as a new one...plus I got exactly what I wanted. I have a BMW that I drive on a daily basis and wish I was in the tacoma every time.

Depends on what you want. I took a complete look at the SR5, TRD Sport, and TRD Off-road packages, and in the end neither of the TRD packages was worth the premium in price.

I quite like my SR5. I know it's not as off road capable as a 4x4 or a TRD (or a 4x4 TRD), but for what I need and want, it was the right choice.

I actually just need the Truck for Towing my boat. I am worried if I only get 2 wheel drive i might get stuck.

Once I launch the Boat the rear tires could be wet and the ramp slippery. Then, I would have to use the 4 x 4 to get me out.

I like the PreRunner because it tow's another 200 lbs. but I think i need the security of the 4x4...

TRD Auto comes with a towing package that included an oil cooler for towing.

The locker only engages in 4lo and you have to already be in 4hi to engage the 4lo, and you must be stopped (Possibly in N, I don't remember at this specific time). To engage the locker in 4lo you'll have to either move forward or backward in an S motion to align the gears in the rear diff. to get them to lock, otherwise yes, it will just flash angry red at you the whole time. :D

PS - Don't engage 4WD Hi or Lo on dry pavement.

Trust them only to get every penny correct for what you owe them. Other than that your best bet is here or what you find through independent unbiased reports. AKA - Consumer Auto Guide. But be careful there cause people are brand loyal and even through their vehicle may be a piece they'll still give it high praise and consumer auto will rank it super high cause customer satisfaction is high.

#1 Just curious. If your stuck in the mud how does does one go forward or backward in an S motion?

I would like to get the TRD OFFROAD but I might have to buy used, and may only find TRD SPORT. Question I have here is: I prolly won't be doin any off road. My Main points are Towing, (Not getting stuck at the bottom of the ramp)+( I won't ever to be able to load my boat from the shore or from the dirt because of the HEFT...weight) so although the locker is great would it help me at the ramp?

I mean if the rear wheels start to slide I just use 4x4 Lo right?

This ramp is an EASy ramp. the others are llike 150' down [\ <--like that...lol

I have the SR5 and that means I don't have the "Locker" right? What's this Locker thing and what does it do?

    Another question:

What's the point of getting the TRD if people are going to get a 3" lift, for example, Bilstein 5100 or OME kits? Doesn't that mean you would replace the stock Bilstein suspension that's already on there? I thought when people get the TRD they're paying more because they want the stock Bilstein suspension.

I pull boats and trailers with my Taco alot. You will be fine with any of the 4x4 packages. I've never had to use my locker for pulling a boat out of the water. I have had to use 4x4 on slime covered ramps. I doubt you'd need to use 4lo either, just click into 4hi drive straight up and then click out of 4hi into 2x and make any turns.

When stuck in mud and needing the locker...Hold brake for like 5 seconds then click into 4lo, then push the locker button. Shift into D, let off the brake, and the gears should mesh and the light will Locker light will stay on.

The point of getting the TRD is the Limited slip that comes with the Sports, and the Locker that comes with the Off Roads.

Assuming he's talking new, but pre-09, the SR5 has the true mechanical LSD.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
SR5 is a "bells and whisltes" option package(s). It has absolutely nothing to do suspension or drive train or lockers. It is all trim, color keyed this and that, bluetooth, JLB, etc.
