I started my truck this morning and bluish/black smoke came out the exhaust! I thought that I had noticed some a few days ago, but wasn't rally sure. It was only an initial burst, and then no more came out, and none comes out while driving. Does any one have any idea what the hells happening? The truck had sat 3 days over the weekend while I was out of town, before I started it this morning.
I will take it to my dealer but truth be known, I can't stand the one closest to my house. So it will take a few days for me to get it to another one.
I have a drop in K&N, and a throttle body spacer is all. I doubt that either one of these would affect anything, but I could be wrong. I have 21,000 miles on it. Also the truck is running better than ever, I'm even getting the best mileage I have gotten since day one.
    How worried should I be?

If you recently had an oil change check to see if the engine was over filled with oil. A few of us have had it happen.

+1 Roland-also, on an engine that new-it is usually indicative of oil seeping into a cylinder maybe past a spark plug thru a spark plug hole--maybe they spilled oil in that area OR one of your valve cover gaskets might be leaking down into one. Since you say it only does it on startup that tells me oil (blue smoke) has to collect-but it's something you really have to have the dealer look at:)

I have not had my oil changed recently, I guess its a trip to the dealer. I hate going to the dealer.

I noticed mine doing it the other day when I first started it. I had been parked on a hill for a few days, so I assumed that had something to do with it.

Very strange, indeed. Im courious as to what the dealer says the problem may be. How is your oil level? It could be your PCV also.

On the phone the dealer said it was condensation and not to worry about it, unless it continues to do it?

    Joe-
mine was also on a slight hill (my driveway)?

No kidding. Its not "condensation", its oil. If you have condensation, it will look just like a little steam comming from you pipe. Call another dealer. ALso, call the 800# in your owners manual and tell them that the dealer you spoke with that said its condensation should have all the tools and service idiots removed from the dealer ship.

I noticed my 2008 with only 1600 miles is doing the same thing. It is a dark blue/black smoke only at start up after it has sat for several days. I dont really want to take it to the dealer seems they will tell you anything. Since it is dark blue/black Im wondering if it is excessive fuel where the computer makes the engine rev so high at start up?

I had a few experiences with toyota motors. They're great but once in a while you'll run into one that has a valve seal leak. What happens is that when the motor sits, some of the oil will seep through the seal and down into the "combustion chamber". Now, when you start the engine up, the oil ignite and burn and out through the exhaust, thus bluish/black smoke. My wife's Camry had it at 42k miles. It's a well maintained car. Dealer should be able to fix it in a jiffy.

BLUE SMOKE=OIL !! if the smoke is blue your burning oil !! if its white smoke its water ie: coolant or condensation..if its black its fuel not burning.. take it to the dealer..

I am in the midst of waiting for my new tailgate to come in to the dealer, I will have them look things over as far as the smoke goes. I'll post what they tell me. To be honest, I have little faith in them, but who knows?

i just noticed my 08 did this this morning. the truck had sat all day yesterday and it let out a big puff of blue smoke when it first fired up. once the cloud went away it was fine... my driveway is slightly at a angle, otherwise when the truck is driven everyday its never done this.
and i only have 800 miles on mine.

OK you guys NEED to jump on these dealers and find out what the deal is. The ONLY 'smoke' ever to come out of the pipes on my '01 is condensation. Not even a puff of black carbon. You guys have newer trucks here and deserve to have a NON OIL BURNING ENGINE. I dont care HOW the oil is getting into the cylinders-it just is. NOT GOOD. PLEASE keep us posted-I'm dying to hear the excuses coming out of these knuckleheads.
