2005 tacoma 2nd gen terminal frame rot rust cancer

When I dropped mine of they told me 3 to 5 months. I will update as this process goes along for others that are in the same situation!

 

No amount of Tacoma can control a bad crew. If you are looking for advice on how to get your cruise control working, I'd start a new thread rather than thread jack a conversation about bad frames.

 

that's crazy. my advisor was very confident in the timing. i wonder if they allocate frames like they do vehicles? I'd venture to say my dealer is pretty big. They operate their shop from 7am to midnight.


Good luck on yours. 3-5 to five months is pretty insane.

I spoke to the tech that inspected my truck. He was the one that stated frame bolts only. But you are right. I should speak to manager.
I have to call anyway.
My truck was inspected end of November. Determined I would need new frame on '07, 50K always garaged truck.
Was to be done by Christmas.
Oh well. Better to wait until the winters over anyway. I need 4wd to get home every day.

 

do you guys think these issues will show up on 2011 and even new trucks (given enough time)?

Sounds like a design or materials issue that's not likely resolved.

 

I was also told in Feb 2015 that my frame needed replacing on my 05. But dealership said that only frame gets replaced and some mounting hardware.

 

How long some of you waiting for new frame? I heard there is a massive backlog of frames to be replaced. Supposedly it's so bad that they may consider changing to partial backlog? Any toyota guys here to confirm or deny this?
I overheard somebody talking so this maybe not true, but considering there is couple months backlog this is getting crazy.

 

You might want to have a more thorough discussion with your dealer. Ask for details in writing and tell them you are going to be in contact with Corp to verify.

should we compare our loaners while we wait on the new frames? i've got no other tacoma talk. i'm starting to feel naked.

i have a 2015 camry le

i hate it. from it's slush box. btw, can anybody compare a camry tranmission to a tacoma auto? my god. 6 gears of pure boredom. it's got a sport shifter thing trying to happen. but it feels like D with a gear cap. ie don't go past 4th gear no matter what. it doesn't feel like it actually shifts gears which, quite frankly, is annoying as fuck coming from a 5 speed.

the back up camera only works maybe 10% of the time. i have no idea why. touch screen just goes blank.

XM is the most over rated thing in car music. crappy stations. same crappy songs over and over. and on top of it, they have commercials for xm radio. as if i need that. since i'm listening.

i can't read the white speedo. thankfully you can change the dash to show a digital speed, but taking traction control off takes it away.

traction control in the snow is nice. i think i'd actually like that on the tacoma. maybe i should call up the service adviser and ask

I was assured when I dropped off my truck for the frame swap that any extra fasteners or parts related to the frame swap that needed to be replaced would be, at no charge.

This was the case for me.

I had them do my crank seal while the engine was out in the open, as it had started to leak badly a few weeks prior and I was trying to find time to do it. A very reasonable (in my opinion) .5 hours was charged, plus the $12 seal. This was the only cost to me when I picked up the truck.

As for quality of work, the truck drives straight and tight as it did when I dropped it off. My camber appears to still be off a little (cam bolts were seized on the old frame so couldn't be adjusted following my OME suspension install), so I'll have that addressed by my independent guy this spring. (I'll also ask him to pull and grease up those new cam bolts generously.) I found a few loose and missing bolts for minor things like the rad shroud, and the frame cross-member heat shield for the drive shaft u-joint (I believe that was for the front u-joint on the rear driveshaft) isn't there - can anyone confirm that the newer trucks still get one? If so, I'm going to ask for a replacement, since I have a pic of my old frame being cut up with the shield still bolted to it. Oh, and I had to fix the rubber boot on the passenger side where a bunch of lines enter the cab through the firewall - that was pushed about 6" away from the cab and would've allowed plenty of water in this spring.

My independent guy also found the new harness was pinched between the body and frame, A/C lines weren't clipped in, zip-ties used here and there for some of the bumper skin fasteners, A/C high pressure cap was missing. But considering that it was done in a day and a half, it could've been waaaaay worse...

Rentals - this dealership hooks people up with an external rental company. Whatever you want, up to $40/day before taxes. First I got a Nissan Versa Note. What a little POS. It needed an alignment badly, too. But it got better mileage than my motorcycle. I told them that wouldn't work, that I live in the country and my driveway hadn't been cleared yet since the last snowfall. They made arrangements for me to pick up a Silverado at a franchise closer to home at the end of the day, and I did so. I truly, honestly, prefer my Tacoma. The Silverado used more fuel (though it was nice to hear the roar of a V8 again), it was sloppy on the road with all sorts of bump steer, and the front bumper and lower valence were so low to the ground that it tried to pretend it was a snowplow while following the same path left by my Tacoma the previous morning - I didn't have it for more than a 12 hours, and I was already digging it out!

All that to say that I'm a pretty happy customer. IMO, Toyota has certainly shown that they're willing to do whatever it takes to retain their customers and I'll definitely include Toyota in my research for our next vehicle.

 

Corporate sent an email indicating receipt of my reimbursement request paperwork (we paid for control arms during a frame swap prior to the Service Campaign being issued).

"We will make every effort to evaluate and respond to you within 45 days."

 

April first I will be starting my 5th month of waiting for my frame to come in!

 

wrapping up week 4, heading to week 5 tommorrow. i knew his estimate of 3-4 weeks was baloney

 

F@ck me! I'm in Richmond dude I hope it's not a regional standard. Going on week 6 for me. Got a voice message from my dealer saying nothing had come in yet. Also got a recall notice in the mail today. It was generic but from my dealer.

 

I finally got mine done 3 days ago, had been waiting for 8 months. All the parts had came in (leaf springs, etc) but the actual frame itself was apparently on "back order". Once they finally got it in it took 5 days to do the frame swap, but yeah, its one hell of a wait :/

 

I'll be dropping mine off @ the end of the week, all parts are still not in, but my state inspection is due by the end of the month, so I have to drop it off regardless. I'm coming up on 7 months.

 

Well I am now in Month 5! Service department has no idea when frames are coming! The only thing they said was I can contact Toyota if I want! This is getting old I wish they would just by it back like they did with my 1999 Tacoma at this point. Was not ready for my truck to be held hostage for 5+ months. Toyota could have thought this one out better! How do they justify taking thousands of trucks from good customers and put us in cars when we bought trucks for a reason.

 

It is what it is. Apparently Toyota didn't expect this many to need frames.

 

I keep getting these recall notices in the mail... year too late idiots!
