Tail Lights not coming on with DTRL

YES. LEAVE THE CIRCUIT OPEN. See if the fuse blows.

 

Yupp, fuse popped. I thank you for all your help so far 12TRDTacoma! So I should keep tracing the green wire, and search for a break or someplace it may be loosened at a plug or touching another wire, correct?

 

Yes sir. Or there could be some exposed insulation which has rubbed off somewhere. Check the contacts at the fuse block. If you need to pull the block off to check the connections under, so be it. Trace those wires up and down remember. There is most likely a splice at some point which allows the wire to run from one end of the frame to the other for the other side of the tail lights.

Well, it wasn't the lights fault or mine. The previous owner had a 7 pin connector wired up for a trailer and had it done wrong. It was connected into the tail lights and buddy had two wires crossed. I took the tail light harness apart and tested with a meter, had power and flicked the drivers blinker and had a big poof and smoke started pouring out from under the truck..

This is when I found the wires crossed on the trailer lights. Took the jeryrigged trailer plug off and now my tails work A1. Now I can relax. I'm glad I caught it when I did cause it could have went anytime.. glad my truck didn't catch fire.

Thanks for all the help guys, especially 12TRDTacoma! Only spent 35$ on fuses testing everything out Lol. Those little things @ $3.20 a piece add up.

Glad you caught it before it caused some real problems.

 

I don't think you would had ever caught fire, because the blowing fuses were what kept you in check from further damage to the electrical system or the vehicle.

Either way I'm glad to hear you found the issue! Some people seriously need to stay away from electrical systems on vehicles. Install your new tails and enjoy!

 

Thing was, it smoked without blowing a 10A fuse, Kinda baffled me.

But either way the IPCW tails look great, very bright! I'd recommend them to anyone who's looking for LED tail lights, Amazon has them on sale.
