Just got my truck back from the dealer. Everything checked out fine. I've only had the truck since the beginning of September of last year and have 10,500 miles. Thats seems like a lot to me. Oh well. It's getting used, that's for sure.

One thing I asked the guys to do while it was in was to adjust the headlights for me. I had a cap and bed slide added so the rear sagged a little. Well, much to my surprise, the headlights are NOT adjustable. They are fixed. Guess I hadn't looked closely at them since I purchased the rig. how the hell to you fix a wandering eye of a headlight then? The left beam seems to shine a bit high. There must be some way to adjust this.

They are adjustable. There are two screws on the back one is for verticle adjustment and the other is for Horizontal adjustment.

Go back to the dealer and call bull chip. Get them to look in the service manual the whole procedure is in there...

I just adjusted mine last week. After a lift and the truck sitting level i was shining the lights quite high. My '13 was super easy to adjust. In the diagram above its a knob that you can roll with your fingers to adjust the up/down of the lights. Took all of 10 min to adjust them low enough to not cause problems for other drivers. Can use a wrench but with some gloves and grip strength you can do without. Hope this helps. Its the bottom most outside knob on the headlight.

This ^^^ To do it correctly takes a bit of effort and time with a proper target and a tape measure.

So, I took this diagram with me back to the Dealership. Showed them my work order from Monday, stating that the headlights were fixed. the kid out front was surprised because he knew they were adjustable. He took the work order back to the maintenance area. He comes back and says they told him they don't do headlight adjustments because it's illegal. They don't have the proper tool to make the adjustment.

I asked him, did he accept that answer, given that they had noted on the work order that it was a fixed system. he shrugged. It wasn't his fault the mechanics told him some BS story. Guess I won't be going back there again. I'm about to call their Service Manager.

WOW! It is illegal to adjust the headlights and they don't have a screwdriver.

For all that is holy please post the name and address of this dealer so everyone can stay clear of them.

That stealership is full of it. Takes all of 10 min to adjust yourself.

Update on this dealership. I was out of town for a bit. When I got home I decided to give the Concord Toyota Service Manager a call. I had to leave a message. After about three hours the call was returned. Very pleasant gentleman who was a bit upset that his guys had potentially driven me away from their service department. He was correct, too. I intended not to return to them for service, despite the ultra convenient location. Once I told him my story he said he would look into it, and call me back. A half hour later he called me back to say he had taken care of the issue and if I came back he'd have my headlights adjusted in 1 minutes or so, and then I'd be back on my way.

I don't mean to high jack your thread but I had a interesting 10,000 mile check up and maintenance today that I wanted to share.

When I dropped my truck off they asked what I needed done and I told them whatever the 10k maintenance is but DO NOT rotate my tires. I have aftermarket rims and I don't want them chipped with their nascar pit crew style lug removal. I also stated that they have gorilla lugs and a normal socket won't fit, I have the correct socket but I will not provide it.

An hour later I get called that it is done. The lady said everything checked out great. I may need a new air filter and cabin filter soon. I'm like ok cool, maybe in another 20k miles. Then she hits me with this! We also wanted to point out that your rear drum pads need replaced, they measure at 4mm thickness.

So I say, how the hell would the tech know my drum shoe thickness without removing my wheels and the drum? Of course she was clueless about that question. Now I'm waiting on a manager to call me back.

It's one thing of it needs it, but I'm not gonna be lied to about it.
The worst part is, that dealership is where I bought the truck. They offer a power train for life warranty as long as you do any and all required maintenance when it is needed.

I'm damn sure not paying for unnecessary work just for that warranty. I'm about to say screw that warranty and do my own maintenance.

People don't listen real well. Seems like everyone is on auto pilot. You have to be very specific, and even then, as in your case, it would seem, the word doesn't get passed to the actual tech. I had my truck in for the 15,000 last week. Went to the dealer I bought the truck from, rather than the guys who did the 5,000 and 10,000 who didn't adjust my headlights. Told the service guy about needing the headlights adjusted and he gave me the same story about them being fixed. I said, No, in point of fact, they are adjustable. When I got the truck back I was told that the headlights were fine. Oh well.

I'm not trying to sound condescending, but why are you guys taking your trucks to a dealer for an oil change? To save the $30 on fluid/filter? Asking for trouble, imo. If you can do it yourself, do it yourself and then you know it's done right and you don't have to deal with this nonsense.

No offense taken, OTB. I have a fairly extensive Warranty. I'd like to get the most out of it. They rotate the tires, check the suspension, which was an add on by the dealer, and other checks besides the oil change. I have no issue doing that myself, but if they have the truck, why not let them do the oil change? They get to dispose of the used oil and other by products, so I'm happy. And it saves me some time. Eventually, I'll be doing those things myself, but I'm in no hurry.

Yeah, I hear ya. When I owned a Jeep, I read a JiffyLube horror story on jeep forum about a guys engine getting tanked by some 16 yr old and have been petrified to let anyone touch my vehicles for routine stuff since. Probably a personal problem :p

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
This ^^^ I have lifetime warranty on power and drive train. Obviously excludes brakes belts and the like. And as mentioned I don't deal with the waste oil and crap. I have to do my work in the driveway or at work without a tool I may have forgotten. Also the receptionist at the service department is pretty cute and chatty. As well as the soccer mom's in the waiting room.
I replace the air filters. just did the brakes and I'll do the serpentine belt later today or tomorrow. I buy the parts from that same dealer and document the shit out of my work. You should see my files for the truck.

It's a crying shame you had to report this. Some of the bullshit that service reps lay on the public just continues to keep auto repair way high on the list of consumer complaints. I'm so distrustful of dealer service, I've actually marked exactly where fill plugs and other items were before they "inspected" them. When nothing has moved, no tool marks, no wipe marks, or no oil is present, I know they have lied. You lie to me once, your gone. This is why I use dealers only for recalls. I don't need to hear my serpentine belt looks like it needs to be replaced at 50K, or my rear shoes are almost gone when I know damn well they have three more years left on them.
