OZ - How do you secure the decking? I'm building a deck (redwood) and screwing the decking on the outside edge and laying down the next board. Just looking for expert knowledge.

 

This was face screwed with 3" trim head stainless screws

 

Did you make that mesh for the privacy fence? Looks like you cut it into 1x for strips....I might steal that look...waay better than lattice.

 

Yeah , I had a bunch of leftover rippings of clear cedar from when we milled up a bunch of exterior trims so I did cut the strips , they are 1" x 5/8" , the spacing is 3" square in between . Each connection is back stapled on the side facing away from the hot tub with 1 1/8" galvanized 1/4" crown staples

 

Nice work Oz. I like the historic squares and not on the diagonal. Do you know what species of vine will be planted? In two years the look with growth will be phenomenal.

 

I think it's going to be some type of Clematis or similar

 

So many nice options with Clematis. Wide variety of colors and different blooming seasons. Some are very fragrant as well. Toss in a few Jasmine vines and he could create a back yard with an oasis of smells.

 

Ground heave? I'm not familiar. Please explain

The house is built on a concrete slab.

 

If you're on a slab it's unlikely to be frost / ground heave , that usually occurs in post and pier type foundations that allow for independent settling and movement

Oh yeah. It will be rock solid. You can by several different drying times. 20, 45 and 90 minute. The big thing when using it is to know your limits with what you can mud in that time span. I always get the 45 minute variety

Did a large deck with this system a few years ago. Still holding up nicley. One of my favorite systems as it keeps water from infiltrating through the nails or screws.

 

I never use speed set unless its commercial work and I have a very short time frame. It sands and leaves a different texture and shows under paint easier.

 

I did a deck with that and another with a similar system but don't trust it for 1" thick decking

Is the floor porcelain tile?

 

looks like it. I did the porcelain wood look tile back in 2013. turned out great.

 

I was just looking at some 6" x 72" wood grained porcelain tiles last weekend we may use for our ensuite

 

follow the mix ratio on the color match grout to a T. buddy of mine didn't do so and ended up with a grout that wasn't quite what was advertised.

 

That is a LONG tile
