Being able to get a job is the most important. Beyond that you have to choose if you're in it because you love it or because it pays well. If something can provide both those things then it's a no brainer. Money isn't a huge motivator for me, so that made my decision fairly easy. Rec majors usually seek jobs in either municipal recreation like running spots leagues, through state or federal agencies like parks, fish and wildlife, etc or private industries usually revolving around sports or camps. The Entreprenuership programs prepare students to start new ventures in any and all fields...from agriculture to aerospace to food to technology.

No doubt. OU's program has a good reputation too. My mom works for Marathon Oil and said they basically only hire OU petroleum engineers.

My brother does survey work for pipelines. Most oil field related jobs recently went through a series of lay offs...but they'll all be rehiring. Anyways, with his per diem he says he makes around $70k, he'll be getting sent out of state soon at which point he says he'll make over $110k. No degree, although he is working on his BS Civil Engineering on the side. He's outside and really loves it...might be worth looking in to. He has worked for Cobb Engineering and Gateway, I'm pretty sure they have Tulsa offices.

That's how my classes were. They told us "look left, right, and down. You will only graduate with one of them". And sure enough, I did.

Because in the CG I sailed the high seas and towed in boats up to 168' long up to 50 miles off shore. I ran 28 SAR cases in my last 5 months in and was on the water every day for 5 years.

I've dabbled in controls at my job too, and am mechanical. I did a start up of our equipment at a plant last weekend. I wish I could do more.

Where do you work in town?

Tulsa is a huge area for engineers. Doesn't surprise me there are so many in here. Used to be the oil Capitol. Now we have a refinery, natural gas, combustion equipment, heaters, pumps, and a shit ton others. Kind of scary when you know how many engineers share the same town as you. Not good for layoff season.

No problem man! I thought about going into the navy since they wouldn't quit bugging me because of my asvab score but I decided the nuclear program wasn't for me.

I work for Precision Fitting and Gauge now and have for 3+ years. Before that I worked for a small systems integrator called Vision Controls that hired me out of school (and who I did an internship for).

Start-ups are part of what makes this job interesting and lively. Gotta love the feeling of being in the control room (or out in the plant) as something starts up and you are hoping and praying all goes well as all eyes are on you. Really gets the heart ( and head) pounding when things go wrong and every body is scrambling and you are doing your best to stay ahead of the problem!

    What do you work on?

I could've worked in either, they gave me a few options. I chose to work in Cody, Wyoming though. 9ts right outside of Yellowstone and should be a good spot to do a little camping and wheeling for the summer.
