Mini H1 and Mini D2S are the easiest to install. FX-R is the hardest of the three. How hard? Meh, not much. Out of the three, FX-R is the best performance with Mini D2S just right behind it. If you can, find a second set of headlights while you work on your retrofit. Time and patience is the key. Work slow and you'll be alright!

I read all the tutorials but I still need advice.

I bought a set of aftermarket headlights on Ebay. If I didn't heat it up hot enough the glue was still hard. If I heat it a little too much then the plastic gets all soft which gets all mangled up when I tried to pry it. I pretty much destroyed the gray housing trying to open one up and stopped from there.:(

I haven't attempted the 2nd light because I don't want to destroy it too.

225 deg, turn off oven, put head light in for 15 minutes. Glue was still too hard.

    Tried 250deg and same problem.

Tried 275deg and the glue was soft enough but then the gray housing got really soft and kept bending and got pry marks. However after 1 minute after scraping the glue and prying, the glue got hard again so I had to re-heat it. After prying and re-heating many many times I was frustrated and determined to get it open. When I finally got it opened, the gray housing was all screwed up so I'm sure it will leak if I put it back together.

I would try 275-300 for about 10 mins, oven off. I've done about 5 sets oem and aftermarket and this worked for me. Some do require placing it in the oven for the second time again.

My aftermarket set seems really stubborn. gray plastic is way too soft and the glue is way to hard. Is there a prying technique to minimize deforming the gray plastic?

I have re-heated it at least 10 times.

Nope. Sounds like just an inferior quality housing.

I got them 3 years ago and I can no longer see the history on Ebay. But they have no brand on them. I know they are not Depo brand. They were the cheapest (around $90 for the pair) at that time.

So pretty much all of my Mini D2S HID retrofit parts from TRS have been sitting in the box since then.
