Yeah - still kind of wondering how I let that happen. I've never actually had a wreck before. I would normally never hit the brakes - would rather swerve instead of lose control - but I had just looked right at the merging traffic so I wasn't confident I had enough space in that split second. Screw it I guess. I can sit here and think about it as much as I want but won't change a thing.

 

Really appreciate it Izzy and everybody else. All the offers for help were super encouraging.

 

Been there before Penguins CC, nothing you can do about it now. I did the same thing in my '97 Audi A4 back in 2005. looked right to see if I could change lanes with all the merging traffic and when I looked back it was too late.

Jose, probably frame damage so time to strip and get new with the insurance money.
Will, I feel for you. You do crazy stuff in your rig offroad all the time and it ends with a traffic accident that you beat yourself up about over and over. Don't take it too bad. If you want I can help find a stick to throw at it.

Hopefully you hadn't gotten around to sinking too much time into fixing the fiberglass, and at least now you never have to worry about those lugnuts

 

OK so let me add a few more details. I was on my way to work and this happened. Both of our cars drove over to the shoulder and I scrambled out to make sure the other folks were OK. A dude jumps out of the passenger seat and says 'we're all OK'. Cool, I think. So I walk up and I see his wife who is very very pregnant and understandably seriously freaking out. Anyhow Bellevue Fire Department came up to me a short while later and tried to reassure me that she was fine and walking around and they were taking her away out of precaution. Seems at least for now things are good but holy crap what a stomach churning moment not to mention the concern throughout the day.

 

I had taken off my frame reinforcement places a month ago to work on the bumper and had not yet put them back on. As you can see, the little bolts that hold the bumper were no match for the impact and thankfully the hood/crumple zone of the truck seemed to absorb a lot of impact. I'm pretty surprised at the damage considering I was <20 mph.

 

That's rough man. Hit me up if you need a ride while it's getting repaired. I got some tools you can borrow... We'll just make it even better this time!

good for the people, sucks for the car. It will be replaced. That one second of distraction will get ya. I was t boned by a tahoe in my tiny sports car going to work in the morning when the other driver was texting and ran the light. Sent my car flying up on the intersection curb. Glad it hit my pillar and not directly center on me.

I think you would have done more damage to the other car had your frame reinforcements were on the bumper.....
