Full ome lift, nitro charger sports all 4 corners (rear shocks relocated), Dakar pack w/ AAL, 882 coils, diff drop, toytec 1" shackles, trail gear low profile front bumper, Tuff Stuff winch, bamf sliders, RAT skids, BAMF Bed Rack, Tepui Kukenam RTT, RAT rear bumper,
I personally would have them welded on by a pro. Otherwise you'll probably be safer drilling the hole.

The bolt ons are fine. Plus easy to repaint.

Guess I'll learn to weld on something easier lol.

Having a professional weld it on and paying for the bolt on Prob will end up costing the same. That being the case. Weld on or bolt on? If cost is the same.

Didn't think about repainting. That's a plus about bolting on. Would either or affect the integrity of the frame in the case of a side impact?

    Look at build!
Id weld them on personally. Ive lifted an FJ off some bolt on ones I built but they move a tad more than weld ons, and honestly its more of a pain in the ass to take bolt ons off to re paint as that's usually most peoples reasoning for bolt ons than its even worth. Its not that hard to touch them up on the truck.. or just do as I did and bedline the tops of them and just rattle can the bottom so youll never have to touch up the tops again.. as for the side impact I put a set on a guys 4Runner and not two weeks later he was hit by a lexus and it only scratched the sliders paint.. totaled the lexus, ill try to dig up the pics

Well..I've seen a side impact accident where the guys sliders pushed the other car under his truck resulting in little damage to him.

But at the same time both make direct connections to the frame so all energy gets transferred right to it.

Really probably not a drastic different. Welding it wrong can weaken the frame as a whole. But should be fine.

Ok. Thanks for the info! I'll make sure to report back once I purchase some.

Edit. After reading most of your guys build. Seems like many have weld on. Guess that will be the route I go.

    ...too much shit to list.
If it's any consolation my sliders are bolt on. And I'm anything but gentle on them. I've also never removed them for touch up paint. 6 and half a dozen. Pick one and go with it. You'll be fine either way.

It was a front shock I bent a shaft on and started this discussion.

I sold my rear 5100s a year ago because they were too short.

If you don't have a welder get bolt on. They are just as strong as weld on. I've got bolt on and they are great. I don't have a welder and pricing or the cost for someone else to do it was as much if not more than the extra cost. I like to do things myself, so bolt on made sense.

As far as side impact your frame already had holes in it, a few more aren't going to hurt. If anything your increasing the moment of inertia of the frame in a plane parallel with a side impact.

In summation bolt on sliders are equivalent to weld on, it's really just your preference and the tools you have/if you want someone else to install them if you don't have a welder. Mine have been beat on, used to lift my truck countless times, etc... No complaints here and absolutely no difference between bolt on or weld in as far as strength is concerned

Some lift, some armor, some scratches..
Just convince her it is a safety issue and she and the truck will be better off with the added protection. Works every time :D

I also like to do everything on my truck myself. I have access to a welder, just never really welded before. I welded exhaust pipes awhile back in high school but that was it. My buddy has bolt on sliders on his FJ, maybe ill go take a look at his and see how it is.
