I was there. Flames didn't deserve to win. Calgary outshot Dallas but the quality scoring opportunities were in Dallas's favour. Calgary showed flashes of good play but they had trouble sustaining pressure in the Dallas defensive game.

Still, the vip experience was pretty sweet.

 

Flyers lose Simmonds with a fractured leg and McDonald with a fractured hand both hit with / blocking shots

Buffet dinner at the dome. Ken King came in and answered questions along with the owner of the Dallas Stars. When asked about the Arena he didn't give any details but told us the plans would be out shortly. Oh, and apparently when the dollar is at 80 cents it costs them roughly 15 million dollars a year in salary over US teams. I'd never worked it out but it was interesting to hear the number. Someone also asked about the health of the Dallas Stars and the owner seemed none to worried. The last question was about expanding into Las Vegas. Both owners said they weren't allowed to answer that question lol, but they also said owners are kept in the dark about things like that now.

Not really. It's an old building though (check out the panel ceiling in a top shelf room!) and there are some terrible sight lines. The Arena is actually shaped like a saddle so the people sitting in the highest crests of the saddle can't even see the ice due to the roof and duct work. I'm sure it seemed like a good idea at the time but it's not fair to charge over $70 for someone to sit where they can't even see the game no matter how good there eyesight is.

The boxes are also old. Corporate sponsors are the blood of any NHL team so those need to be addressed.

Calgary has a VERY loud and passionate fan base. They do deserve a new facility that can better accommodate the team and the fans. The biggest question is who will pay for it. Likely taxpayers in some way, and I'm not sure I agree with that part. I get lots of use out of it so it's worth my taxes but what about the 90% of people who can't afford to go to a game.
