It is a little surprising for being such a conservative company making a their designs a love it or hate.

I was cruising on the freeway and saw a new Chevy way up ahead and couldn't tell if it was a Silverado or Colorado until I got close enough to read it.

The 2nd gen Tacoma looks better than the 3rd gen.

It is almost like it is some game, lets see how ugly we can make it, and see if they'll still buy it.

Totally agree with the tech...I like a little, but some of the stuff is ridiculous...I am somewhat abusive on vehicles. I want mostly bare bones. Hell, you can't even get the base model with hand crank windows anymore.

For the price of a new Taco, I could buy 3, 1st gens...and just keep them in rotation as they break... :D 1st gens had just "enough" tech IMO.

This ^^. Honestly, I think tundra's are some of the ugliest trucks out there, the rear door handles look brutal and just the design of the entire truck, one word to describe it would be abomination to say the least

I don't think the 2016 looks bad at all. Toyota just won't box the dang frame and stop the bed twerk! I mean Miley is getting jealous of the tacomas twerk ability. But seriously Toyota box the frame and galvanize it so it won't rust out!!!!!

I'm on this, too much tech in general. My main concerns for tech were: iPod compatible and a backup cam. I wanted the backup cam mainly because this is my first truck and I wasn't sure how well I would do...but I find myself looking out the back window anyway. The visibility is great.

Only option I wanted otherwise was remote start. Thats because I park it on the street and summers here get to triple digits...it would be nice to turn it on and let the AC crank for a few minutes before I get in.

I could easily learn to like the looks if it goes 0 to 60 in near 7 seconds flat and gets 28 mpg highway. I could learn to like it if the interior was a little more roomy and the ride and seating were improved. I could like it if the lumbar support were standard......a lot of "little" things and I could easily like the looks. I like cars like I like women. If they are a good ride, it counts a bit more in the looks department.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Oh wah hah, boo hoo! Everybody hated the second gens when they came out too for their large size and bug-eyed headlights, and now look how many of you drive them. Same thing will happen to the third gen mark my word.

I don't know why people waste bandwidth making pointless threads like this, makes no sense to me.

I wonder how many people hated the change from 2004 to 2005?
I know I hated the 2005. Toyota didn't get their design right in my eyes until the 2012 refresh.

So...I don't love the 2016, it's off a little bit, but it's a better start than the 2005 in my opinion.
In ten years the design of the 2016 will change and it will get better.

Also, I'm a huge fan of reliable over technological trickery every day, but lexus seems to manage both. It's not too much to ask for more creature comforts and expect long term reliability. Side mirror defrosters are welcome features in my 2006 4runner. That kind of simple addition to Tacoma's along the way would have been nice.

Let's face it. Toyota was complacent.

True...I highly doubt it will get 28 hwy, my guess is 24 max...and that is a maybe.

I do like the interior, much improvement over what it is now. I'll be looking at the dash waaay more than the outside.

Grill is a little too cod piece for my liking, but oh well...(pretty much all the new trucks are like that)

    Word Up!

So what your saying is YOU dont like the new Tacoma because it looks like a smaller Tundra... But then there are Hundreds maybe dare i say thousands of people that Bitch because the Version 2 Second Gens werent a big change just Front end and minor inside changes.... But this is a completely new truck (motor, interior, sunroof, bed, style, transmission, lighting, ect.). Sooooooo there is no pleasing everyone... yep sounds about right..

If it only gets 24 mpg highway, it's a huge waste of technology or at least the claim and all the advertising when direct injection and faux Atkinson cycle have shown together in car motors to raise gas mileage by 30%. The 1.0 3 cylinder version in a European designed Toyota powered minicar has been mpressive mileage wise. The 4.0 with dual VVT would yield a couple more then the 21 highway now. When the 4.0 came out, it was head and shoulders ahead of GM in many areas. You would think ( or hope) this new motor would be the same.
