Not stupid at all, in the moment I can't say I wouldn't have done the same. In my mind, always to get out of there than to provoke them and have something worse happen.

Yeah they can be. They stole my work bag and laptop along with my flight gear (I fly airplanes as a hobby). They did leave all my dry cleaning there though which I guess was good?

We kept a door kit with slim jims and wedges at our motor pool for when people locked their keys in their cars. Most of them took less than a minute to get into. It took longer to sign out the set than to get into the cars.

I would say odds are they didnt stay im their vehicle. If you had enough space to climb in yours then they had enough space to climb out of theirs. You were probably less than two minutes away from losing your laptop and carry piece. That is the main reason I bought a console vault, that adds at least 5 minutes to their time and hopefully prevents it altogether.

I would almost bet they were casing the lot, probably seen possible movement to signify you had disarmed and moved in after you entered the store. They knew what you looked like so probably slipped back in their vehicle as you came back out.

I'm guessing you have used the key lock since and it wasn't damaged?

I came out of work and found both my back seats flipped up the other day but I cant find anything missing.

Bugged the hell out of me. I thought I had closed the door and locked it but the damn seat belt was stuck in the drivers door. And I think it won't lock if any of the doors are open.

A simple tool can get you in the truck in seconds. I'd watch local PD struggling with a slim jim to help someone get back into their Toyota. I would offer assistance, which would be denied. Then I would sit and watch, and after 5 minutes of struggling, they would have me come over and I would pop the lock in 5 seconds. I'm not saying I am that good at it, I just had the tool to allow me to do it.

One way to prevent a carry pistol from being stolen would be to carry it on you.
Hey, glad nothing was taken out of your truck, not trying to give you a hard time.
Now what if those two had decided to rob you, that carry gun won't do you any good unless you have it on you.

I think the key ID is needed to make a physical key in the event you lose both of yours.

Nylon wedge and slim jim takes about 15 seconds in the hands of an experienced user. I saw a Pop-A-Lock guy do it in about 10. It took me longer to sign the credit card receipt.

    My guess is...
You walked out just in time as they were in the act. cover you bases with a police report. Tell your neighbors to keep an eye out around the hood. Good luck.

I remember a few years ago there was a report on the news. They said that people were going to DIA long term parking lots. Breaking into cars and taking garage door openers and registration.

I definitely got lucky. However, I was still carrying, just not with the larger pistol which was left in the truck's door (still stupid, I know). I was wearing business attire and had my shirt tucked in so the fat XD would've stuck out like a sore thumb. The smaller and thinner Taurus TCP was in my pocket

    44f5d120c4909ea803b756370d0f97ac_1368515a7c3479af3531bf786814d26df70eb236.jpg

My two favorites. Say what you will about the Taurus, but I absolutely love it.

Also, I don't have a picture of the whole truck, I only snapped a photo of their license plate and drove off. The police have been contacted and given a copy of the photo. They said they haven't had any other reports of break ins in the area I was in, but there have been multiple reports in the neighborhoods surrounding the area. Hope my report helps them out.

    Google Jiggler Keys.

My son's brand new Dodge pu was opened in our driveway with no visible signs of entry. Police suspect jiggler keys. You'll never feel safe behind any kind of lock if you read about jiggler keys.

The jiggler keys are a set of ten different pieces of metal, cut to resemble the general shape of an assortment of keys.

By way of lock bumping, the keys are designed to open most pin tumbler and wafer tumbler locks, such as those commonly found on an automobile. A key is inserted into a lock and jiggled, resulting in repeated impacts on the lower key pins of a lock. This energy is transferred upwards through the key pins to the driver pins. Ideally, the driver pins will be pushed high enough on one of the bumps that the cylinder will be able to turn. Because this is a key, constant rotational pressure can be applied to the lock, removing the need for a torsion wrench. If the first key doesn’t open the lock, try again with the next key in the set. If you’re still curious how jiggler keys work, check out YouTube for a selection of videos that show them in action.

This set of jiggler keys comes with 10 keys and an instruction booklet for only $14.95.

It's not hard get in to most vehicles. And on 95% of vehicles you don't go through the window. That breaks windows and tears seals. They want to get in your car and make it look as if they have never been in. At least the "good" ones do. The really good ones will even lock the doors back, that way the chirp/noise is there on the unlock.
Not that any theif is good.

I agree the guys most likely target you for sporting goods.
You'd be amazed at the people that keep firearms in their car.
And if you advertise with stickers. You just upped your odds. Now they know you
at least own a firearm. Target acquired.

No, I'm not a theif. I have been a victim of them.

At the least get one of the lock boxes that cables to your seat frame; it won't stop a determined thief but the average smash and grab thief won't have time to pop it open. Never leave anything interesting visible.

I hate thieves and personally would have no issues with stringing them up from lamp posts. Never mess with another man's vehicle.
