I'm having some issue with my 2001 tacoma. It's a 5 speed 3.4. When I shift to 2nd I get some lunging. Like I'm not giving it enough gas, but my rpms are 1500-2000 around normal when I drive. It has a new clutch. Done by dealership I believe and u joints are in good shape. But it usually does this when it's cold. After a few miles for it to warm up it doesn't do it again. Any ideas on what it could be. To my knowledge the truck had a frame replacement and new engine roughly 100k miles ago. Idk about the transmission though so it could have 200k+ miles.

    Thanks for your input

Could be a number of things from old fluids to clogged cats to dirty sensors.

Do you have a service record on the truck of when stuff was changed?

These are all estimates as it depends on driving conditions really.

Water pump Timing belt should be done at 120k or so
Catalytic converters usually last 200k miles but not always
O2 sensors wear our over 100k+ miles
MAF sensor on your intake tube should be cleaned every 30k Maybe
    Air filter 10k-30k usually.
    Transmission fluids 60k
front diff and transfer case 100k
    Rear diff fluids 30-60k
    Spark plugs 30-60k
    Plug wires 100k
Cleaning the gunk in the throttle body every 20-30k or so if its nasty.

I shift at 2500-3000 rpms taco lol. But I'll check all that stuff this weekend for sure. From what you said best run some stp injector cleaner might as well change the transmission fluid to play it safe. But it seems really easy and cheap stuff to fix witch thank goodness lol :)

    nice, congrats.

do you guys think that 12 cans would be enough to cover the whole truck? I'm gonna get 12 cans varnish, 12 cans green, 1 can black, 11 cans metal primer, and 1 can plastic primer

Depends on how many coats you want. I was told that I should do about 5 cans for my hood alone. Seems like overkill to me though

My best advice to you as a former painter is.. PREP work goes a long way, take a full day prepping before you start anything.

Had a friend prep and sand his car and take it to macco and it came out pretty dam good... might go that route myself. just concerned if i have to go bare metal due to my taco having defective flaking paint.

nothing wrong with going to bare metal as long as its level.
